Chapter 40
Kingsley’s foot hovered dangerously in the air. Though he didn’t actually kick Daisy, the force of his movement sent her stumbling back, trembling violently. Her tears flowed freely. She looked utterly defeated, spilling everything.
Shawn and Tucker turned pale, both shaken by the brutality they’d just witnessed.
Their expressions were grim–Kingsley was every bit as ruthless as the rumors suggested.
Kingsley lowered his foot with chilling calmness, his gaze void of emotion, as cold as the steel around them
Elaine watched Daisy collapse in front of Kingsley, feeling nothing but a smile tug at the corner of her lips.
She wasn’t scared of Kinsley
After all, she’d seen the gentleness of Kingsley before–his sacrifice for her, his death in that cold, shadowed basement, with her.
He’d died young, barely thirty, before he had the chance to live wonderfully.
she could still feel the rage and guh from that past life–a life where her family had used her, crushed her underfoot to elevate Bianca.
She had dragged Kingsley into her mess, and he had died for it
If she had survived that life, maybe Kingsley wouldn’t have lost his will to live. Maybe she could have saved him.
They could have had a fature together.
But now, in this life, she wouldn’t let him fall into that cold grave again.
Her li
lips curled into that soft smile as she recalled. Daisy’s eyes widened in fear.
Elaine is lost of mind; she thought. How can she still smile after seeing Kingsley’s fierce side up close!
She clenched her fists, her voice filled with resentment as she shouted, “Yeah, I made up the whole story. So what? Elaine, you deserve it
She sneered, her voice laced with venom. “Admit it. Elaine. Aren’t you jealous of Bianca! Haven’t you ever bullied her! All those things you did to her–did any of it not deserve punishment?
“You’re a conniving miserable woman, and you’ll always be stuck in the shadows, watching Bianca shine while she gets all the love and admiration from everyone!
Elaine remained unfazed, her expression indifferent.
“Is that
hat so!” she said softly, her gaze never leaving Daisy.
Daisy’s rage only grew, pushing her to continue, her voice sharp and accusing. “Do you really want me to air all your dirty laundry in front of Mr. Morgan!
She couldn’t 1 believe that if Kingsley ever found out about Elaine’s past, he’d be able to act like it didn’t matter at all.
Elaine’s gaze flickered to Kingsley, who remained unmoved by Daisy’s words. In fact, he didn’t even spare Daisy a glance,
Alf glanced at Daisy with disdain. He had never seen
seen anyone so foolish as to try and slander Elaine in front of Kingsley.
Elaine looked back at Daisy, her voice low but razor–sharp. “You think this concerns you! You’re nothing but Bianca’s lapdog, jumping at every chance to please her.
“And yet, you still have the nerve to criticize me? What do you get for all this? Bianca has everything–love, admiration, and power–while you’re nothing but a lachry
“So tell me, what’s there for you to be so proud of?”
Daisy’s face drained of color, her mouth opening but finding no words.
Kingsley frally spoke, his tone dripping with menace. “If she loves to talk so much, maybe it’s time to cut her tongue out
