Chapter 50
In her room, Elaine continued her conversation with the Book Elf. “I know this is just a book,” she said, her tone firm. “But this is also my life. I have feelings, I experience joy and sorrow, anger and grief. I’m not some mindless character following a scripted plot. This time around, I just want to live freely. My greatest wish is for Kingsley to find happiness. He died so miserably for me in our last life, and in this one, he deserves every bit of redemption”
The Book Elf stared at Elaine as if beginning to understand something.
In this life, the only unwavering light in Elaine’s heart was Kingsley, the man who had once died for her.
Without bringing up forgiveness again, the Book Elf played back the scene of Tucker causing a ruckus at the Yeats family home.
Flame watched the footage and frowned. Tucker’s being ridiculous,” she said. “Why tell the Yeats family that I’m never coming back! What if I need 10 return later to progress the main storyline? Wouldn’t that make me look bad?”
Annoyed, she clicked her tongue.
Blue, standing nearby, rolled his eyes dramatically. “Didn’t you swear up and down that you were cutting ties with them? That you wanted to go back to being strangers with your brothers? If that’s what you declared, then Tucker’s words are basically the truth. You don’t want any ties with the Yeats family, so what difference does it make?”
“Tucker’s got
a point, doesn’t he?“
Elaine nodded thoughtfully. “You’re right.”
Moments later, her phone rang. It was Tracy
“Elaine, come home tomorrow, Tracy said curly
Flaine raised an eyebrow, surprised by the sudden request, “Why?” she asked lazily,
Even if she did go back, it would only be to advance the plot—not to take any abuse.
Her indifferent tone masle Tracy’s temper flare. On the other end of the line. Tracy’s voice rose, sharp with anger. “Elaine, when I tell you to come home, you come home Why are you asking so many questions? Is this how you talk to your biological mother? You ungrateful little wretch!”
If it weren’t for Elaine, none of today’s chans would have happened,
Hearing Tracy use her as a scapegoat yet again, Elaine’s expression darkened. But the bright, dazzling smile that appeared on her face was more unsettling than reassuring–it was the smile of someone unhinged
“My biological mother! Ms. Cash, yes, you gave birth to me, but did you ever raise me! I’m honestly amazed you have the audacity to bring up the term biological mother. Tell me, do other mothers show more care for their adopted daughters while treating their own flesh and blood like
Her words, though delivered in a tone as sweet as honey, were laced with venom.
“Elaine,” Tracy hissed, her temples throbbing with anger. Her voice turned softer, almost pleading. “Why do you insist on comparing yourself to Bunca? She may not be my own, but she’s been by my side for sixteen years. Of course, I care for her.
Flaine let out a cold laugh “Exactly. She’s your precious daughter. Who you choose to care about is none of my business. But if you don’t like me as your daughter, rest assured, I don’t like you as my mother either. Let’s call it even, shall we? You stick with your perfect daughter, and I’ll make sure to steer clear of you. That way, neither of us has to feel disgusted”
“You’ve got your beloved daughter to teach, so why don’t you focus on her and stop trying to boss me around?
Elaine’s voice was devoid of emotion, her words cutting like a blade. She had stopped caring about anyone’s opinion, least of all Tracy’s,
In the past, Tracy’s approval had mattered to her. But now! Never again.
Elaine’s calm and unbothered demeanor left Tracy seething with rage, her chest heaving with the effort to keep herself composed. But the thought of Ingram and the charity gala forced her to rein in her temper. Taking a deep breath, she regained her usual poise as the matriarch of a wealthy family
“Your sister was recently invited to the Boynton Ingram estate, Tracy began, her voice steady, though her emphasis on Ingram’s name hinted at

mugness. “When she came back,

you. He personally asked for you to attend the charity gala”
Tracy’s tone was dripping with pride, as if Ingram’s acknowledgment of Banca–and by extension, Elaine–was a budge of honor.
Elaine, however, raised an eyebrow at the mention of Boynton Ingram. She hadn’t expected hing to extend an invitation to her. After all, she had never expressed any interest in mingling with high society, especially after falling out with the Yeats Family,
Ingram knew her well enough to understand that she avoided grand social events to let Banca shine as the “official” Yeats heir. He had never pushed her on it, though he’d always seemed regretful of her decisions.
But this time, he had specifically asked for her presence.
Tracy mistook Flaine’s silence for intimidation. Smiling to herself, she added, “Ingram holds Bianca in high regard. It’s only because of her that he even thought to mention you
Elaine felt her patience wane. Did Tracy have some kind of brain malfunction?
She and Ingram were old acquaintances—she didn’t need Bianca to “uitroduce” her.
Still, Elaine couldn’t be bothered to argue. She simply said. “Got it,” and hung up.
Tracy stared at her phone, fuming over the abrupt end to the call.
Ella, who had been standing nearby, frowned. “Well Did she agree to come back?”
Tthink so.” Tracy replied reluctantly.
Ella nodded. “Bianca’s gown for the gala was ruined by Tucker. We need to find her a new one immediately. She has to outshine everyone else at the
event
Bianca’s beauty, celebrated by the media as unparalleled, was her greatest asset. But even the most stunning appearance needed the perfect attire to complement it.
Tracy looked troubled. With so little time, where are we going to find the right gown for her?”
“The Scott family,” Ella said, her eyes gleaming. “Thisure Finley will be more than willing to help.”
Ella’s intentions were clear–she was trying to matchmake Bianca and Finley, hoping to secure a connection to Boynton’s elite.
Tracy understood immediately and nodded. “I’ll handle it.”
“One more thing.” Ella added, stopping Tracy in her tracks. “Get an identical gown for Elaine, too.
Identical gowns. Someone was bound to end up embarrassed.
And Ella was certain. It wouldn’t be Blanca.
