Tirvon, look over there. Trevon tagged at Shawn, who seemed lost in thought, and gestured towards Elaine’s direction. He clicked his tongue and added. “You didn’t see it earber, did you? Elaine just poured a whole glass of red wine on Kayla,
“She’s really something now. She used to have a bad temper at home, but she would hold back for your sake. I never imagined her temper would get even worse. Tonight, in front of so many high–society people, she actually dared to pour wine on Kayla. I wonder what Kayla did to deserve
Shawn snapped out of his dare, his expression even more complicated.
Trevon’s words, “for your sake,” pierced him deeply, giving him a sharp pang in his heart.
So, Elaine had once humbled herself for him to this extent,
The things he had once ignored were now what he craved. How ironic. How laughable.
He suddenly remembered when Elaine first came home, how stubborn she was, as prickly as a porcupine. If their mom did something unfair, she would argue back, but she was always afraid he, her older brother, would be upset. So, she would try to be a good little sister, only hoping he wouldn’t dislike her. Such a simple wish.
He suddenly recalled the time when Grandpa had at him down and explained that Elaine’s temper wasn’t actually bad, that she had endured too much malice when she returned home. That was why she reacted like a hedgehog–she fought back whenever she encountered unfairness or hostility.
But he had never really listened to Grandpa, never really understood Elaine.
No wonder Graham had looked at him with such disappointment in his eyes.
At the time, he didn’t get it, but now, it seemed clear, Graham’s eyes had been saying. You’ll regret it
Now, did he regret it!
Shawn felt an unprecedented sense of panic rise in his chest.
He didn’t dare to think about it, didn’t even dare to ask himself.
Trevon didn’t notice Shawn’s inner turmoil and continued talking “She had an argument and that real estate heiress are good friends, and I don’t want to see Bianca upset over this”
with Kayla. I just hope this doesn’t affect Bianca. Bianca
Hearing Trevon talk like this about Elaine, Shawn finally couldn’t hold back and interrupted him. “Trevon, don’t talk about her like that,” Trevon was caught off guard by Shawn’s sadden interruption, and after noticing Shawn’s change in demeanor, he laughed incredulously. “Shawn, what’s with you? Why are you suddenly snapping at me! Did I say something wrong!”
He couldn’t understand. If it had been before, Shawn would have said something even harsher, maybe even taken matters into his own hands to punish Elaine.
now, just because he mentioned her bad temper and worried about Bianca getting involved, Shawn snapped at him? Trevon couldn’t make
sense of it
Tucker was like this, and now Shawn was too, What had happened to them?
Shawn’s forehead twitched with frustration.
“I told you, Trevon, don’t talk about her like that.”
Trevon had never seen Shawn like this. Though Shawn’s expression was fierce, he seemed more like a drowning man clinging to a lifeline, That was when Trevon finally stopped talking
After a few seconds, Shawn spoke in a hoarse voice, Trevon, Elaine really meant it when she said she wanted to sever ties with us brothers.” Trevon was taken aback, momentarily silent, then said. “Shawn, have you really let this girl fool you? She’s nineteen, right at the peak of her rebellious phase. Are you really scared of her?”
Shawn watched Trevon’s reaction and, in that moment, he seemed to see a version of himself from the past
Maybe now, he could understand a bit of Tucker’s feelings.

Chapter 64
“You’ll understand one day”
Slawn didn’t know how to explain it to Trevon. Even he himself felt lost and couldn’t find a clear path forward.
The disturbance in the banquet hall naturally caught the attention of other socialites. When Tracy saw that Flaine and Kayla seemed to be having a confhet, a sense of foreboding gripped her heart
She was worried that Elaine had caused trouble at the charity event and offended Kayla
the Years
In a grand occasion like tonight’s with countless reporters and cameras around, it was Elaine’s first time appearing as the daughter of the family. She couldn’t afford to offend any important guests or have the media spread it all over
tep away for a moment. She then headed straight toward
Tracy excused herself from the ladies she was talking to apologizing that she needed to step away. Elaine, her expression revealing a mix of restrained anger.
When Kayla saw Ingram approaching, she seemed to find her support and, with red wine–soaked hair, began to cry to him, “Ingram, this woman is cassing trouble at the charity event. You need to throw her out.”
She then turned to Bianca, glaring at Elaine. “Blanca, Elaine has no manners at all. How can she show her face like this“”
The Shepard Group had a prominent position in Boynton, contributing greatly in the local economy. Her father was a well–known figure in the media. Ingram would surely help her. considering her background and status as a real estate heiress, and deal with Elaine,
The other socialites in the circle, seeing which way the wind was blowing started siding with Kayla, criticizing Elaine. Their words we
were laced with sarcasm, mocking Elaine’s origins and suggesting she didn’t belong with them.
“Miss Yeats, we were just sitting here enjoying our coffee, chatting. You pour wine on Kayla’s fare–what do you mean by that! Have we done something to offend you?”
“Right, you’re from the countryside, but you’ve been with the Yeats family for a while now. You should learn some manners and hot bring your trash–picking habits from the village into our presence.
Elaine looked at the group of socialites with a cold, emotionless gaze.
The noblewomen, meeting Elaine’s eyes, felt an unfamiliar sense of discomfort.
Though this was their first tin
time encountering Elaine in a socialite setting, they had previously met her at the Yeats family. As Bianca’s friends, they naturally held a hostile attitude toward Elaine, a girl raised by a scavenger, and they had often been critical and difficult with her.
But today, they were seeing a side of Elaine they hadn’t encountered before–her eyes cold and fierce
Ingram didn’t immediately take Kayla’s side. Instead, he asked Elaine. “Ehine, what happened just now!”
The girl had actually raised her hand in the banquet hall–something must have crossed her line.
Elaine coldly snorted and responded with a strong resolute tone. “They were talking behind my back about me and my foster mother. I really didn’t know that the daughters of high society would be more gossiping than old women from the countryside. Is this the kind of upbringing you get in your high society! Well, today, I’ve certainly witnessed it.”
The socialite circle hadn’t expected Ingram to side with Elaine and inquire about what had happened. Elaine laid everything out, and suddenly, the noblewomen’s faces turned ugly.
