Chapter 81
Elaine simply raised an eyebrow when she saw Finley’s fury bubbling up, responding in a cool, detached tone, “Finley, the more you stoop to insult me and Kingsley like this, the more it looks like you’re just bitter–unable to have me, so you want to tear me down.”
Finley clenched his lips, his self–esteem crushed under Elaine’s casual words.
“Elaine’s right,” a voice cut through the tension. Kingsley had somehow silently approached them.
He stepped forward, taking Elaine by the arm, pulling her close in a protective stance as he faced Finley squarely.
“Mr. Scott, it’s time you face the truth. Elaine has chosen me now. It’s over between you two. You should respect her decision and move on with dignity. You’re only embarrassing yourself by lingering here, disturbing my fiancée. As her fiancé, I have every right–and ability to protect her. Do you agree?”
Elaine stood behind Kingsley, her eyes fixed on his broad shoulders and back, a sensation of being defended washing over her. Her throat tightened as she fought the urge to sniffle.
But she had to admit—this was the most Kingsley had spoken in one go. And every word, sharp as a blade, crushed Finley’s pride further into the ground.
Honestly, Finley didn’t even understand why he kept trying to hold on to Elaine. He had never cared that much for her before.
Maybe it was just his possessive nature, clawing its way to the surface.
Taking a deep breath, he finally muttered, “Kingsley, I was out of line.”
Kingsley didn’t even spare him a glance, simply turning to Elaine. “Elaine, let’s go.”
“Alright.”
As the perfect couple walked off, Finley stood beneath the tree, his fists clenching inside his sleeves, the anger still simmering in his chest.
Just then, Bianca appeared by his side.
“Mr. Scott?” Her soft, sultry voice broke his frustrated thoughts.
Upon seeing Bianca, Finley’s stiff features softened. He couldn’t help it–he had always felt a certain tenderness toward her.
She was his first love, after all. A gentle, considerate woman, unlike Elaine, who was fierce and independent. Bianca’s softness had always drawn him

But now, he was engaged to Elaine.
The inner conflict was unbearable. He couldn’t let go of Bianca’s warmth, but he also couldn’t dismiss the things Elaine had done for him.
The struggle, the indecision–it seemed he had somehow ended up by Bianca’s side.
“Bianca, what are you doing here?”
‘I came to comfort you, of course,” Bianca replied, a knowing glint in her eye as she looked toward Elaine and Kingsley leaving, as if pondering something.
“I was just in the living room. Kingsley mentioned their engagement. It’s practically a done deal now. But I think you should warn Elaine not to marry into the Morgan family.” She leaned in a little, her voice soft but laced with meaning,
Finley glanced sideways at Bianca, surprised.
“Why?”
Bianca chuckled lightly, shaking her head. “You must be worried that Elaine marrying into the Morgan family might not end well. She doesn’t have the skills to hold her ground in a family like theirs, and even with me by her side, I doubt I could help her make it work,”
Bianca’s version of Tracy’s words was more delicate, but the core message was the same. Tracy had initially been thrilled about Kingsley, but now she saw potential issues.
Bianca would eventually join the family as the young, rich wife–having someone like Elaine in the way could only hold her back.

Finley wasn’t surprised by this revelation. Kingsley was a little too new to be considered true high society. The Morgan family had risen quickly, but they weren’t exactly a longstanding institution.
“The Morgan family isn’t exactly an established old–money dynasty like the Scott family,” Finley remarked with a hint of disdain. “They’ve only just started making their mark, and they won’t ever meet the standards of the real upper crust.”
Though he was wary of Kingsley, Finley wasn’t overly intimidated by him. The Morgan family was nothing more than a wealthier version of a nouveau riche family.
The Scott family, on the other hand, had been rooted in Boynton for years, with ties to Lento City. If you were comparing families, the Scott family was the real deal–the true aristocracy.
Bianca, hearing this, visibly relaxed. The Morgan family might not be as prestigious as it seemed.
But she still felt that Elaine had made a huge mistake.
“Elaine will regret giving up on a man like you, Mr. Scott. A man like you deserves the best woman. You shouldn’t waste your energy over Elaine.”
Her smile was almost too perfect, the kind of smile that made every man feel like they were the center of her universe. She was beautiful, kind, and seemingly understanding.
Finley, caught up in her sweetness, felt a sense of relief.
Looking at her now, old memories flooded back, feelings of affection from their past blossoming anew.
His voice softened, “Bianca, you don’t need to be so formal with me. You used to call me Finley. Now, you’ve gone back to calling me Mr. Scott. Did I do something to upset you?”
“Of course not,” Bianca replied with a shake of her head. “But back then, we were to be future family. I had to maintain some decorum for the sake of others.”
Finley’s heart melted again. She was still the same–gentle, kind, and understanding.
He had once thought Bianca was manipulative, but now, seeing her this way, he realized he had been wrong.
If Bianca were to speak ill of Elaine now, he would be disgusted.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Tracy, Harlan, and Tucker waited, the tension palpable.
Finally, Elaine and Kingsley returned.
“Elaine,” Harlan greeted her, still concerned that Finley hadn’t returned. “Is Mr. Scott alright?”
Kingsley stepped in front of Elaine, answering smoothly, “Mr. Scott’s situation has been handled.”
“Good,” Harlan said, nodding, before suddenly remembering something. “Elaine, I got you something.”
He handed her a gift, his nervousness showing. It was his first gift for Elaine, and he wasn’t sure how she’d react.
But Elaine didn’t take it.
Tucker, seeing the gift, sneered but said nothing.
Tucker glanced at the gift box and let out a cold laugh, saying nothing.
Earlier, Tucker had claimed that Elaine wouldn’t accept the gift, but deep down, Harlan wasn’t so sure.
He knew that any gift from him, Harlan, would be accepted by Elaine without question. He knew her too well–she couldn’t bear to hurt him, to disappoint him.
But, in the end, things didn’t go as he hoped.
Elaine didn’t accept his gift. Harlan, did he really think everything was still the same as before? Did he really believe that nothing had changed between them?
It was impossible.
