Chapter 10%
The next day, Samuel didn’t show up at the City Clerk’s Office.
He got drunk late at night and ended up in the hospital after getting into a fight with the bar’s desperados.}
His mother personally came to ask me to visit him in the intensive care unit, where he lay with no will to live.} But I didn’t go.
A week later, during a gathering with Sarah, she informed me that Samuel had become a vegetable.
Seeing that I wasn’t the least bit sad, she continued to tell me with a satisfied expression about the aftermath of Emily’s suicide attempt.
“That little bit*h refused the help of the firefighters and eventually fell from the top of the building. Fortunately, she was caught by the stairwell beam and didn’t die. But from then on, she can only move around in a wheelchair.“}]
“Wow.””
As I was engrossed in my phone and seemingly indifferent to the life and death of others, Sarah, curious, peered over and glanced at me several times.
“Wow, Richard, the introverted guy, turned out to be straightforward. What? Did you agree to be his girlfriend?“}
“Don’t talk nonsense. My dear husband is still lying in the hospital, and I’m busy with the divorce proceedings. I don’t have time for romance.”
“Well, you’re really wicked, Natalie. Even when your husband is dying, you’re thinking about getting as much of his money as possible.”
Praised by my good friend, I put down my phone and elegantly sipped on an ice cream with a pistachio flavor.
Looking up, I squinted at the sky.
“The weather today is really nice.“}
The sky was clear, without a cloud in sight.
Even though there might occasionally be gloom, it could never overcome the sun that would never disappear.
Becoming my own sun, even if my soul was injured, there would always be a day of healing.
