Chapter 5%
Before I could explain that we had only dated a few times and were still in contact with each other. someone patted Matthew on the shoulder.
He hadn’t had time to turn around when he was suddenly punched from behind and almost fell to the ground.
As the crowd scattered, someone exclaimed.”
“Samuel, what are you doing?”
With eyes as dark as the sea and veins bulging on his neck, I had never seen Samuel so out of control with anger.}}
As he cursed at Matthew, his eyes were fixed on me.“}]
“Natalie is my wife. How dare you put your dirty hands on her waist in front of me?“}
“You bastard!”
Samuel grabbed the bewildered Matthew’s collar, emotionally raised his left fist again.”
But this time, I quickly stepped between him and Matthew, with an unusually indifferent look in my eyes.
“Have you taken the wrong medicine, Samuel? Who is your wife? We are already divorced.”
He was the one who proposed the divorce.
He was the one who asked me not to disturb the person he was involved with.
And he was the one who brought his mistress to the restaurant where we had countless beautiful memories.§
Yet now, he seemed to have amnesia and was meddling in my personal life.
For a moment, I really wanted to pry open Samuel’s mind and see what disgusting things were inside that made him forget the basic bottom line of being a human being.”
“Natalie, are you scolding me for someone else?“}
Samuel pointed at himself, a look of disbelief on his face, and sneered.
“Have you forgotten that we haven’t officially divorced yet? To this day, Natalie, you are still my wife. I’ll ask you again, did I do wrong by hitting him?”
Damn the cooling–off period for divorce.
I frowned impatiently, but before I could retort, Emily, who was following closely behind Samuel, took the opportunity to speak tearfully to Samuel.
“Samuel, I didn’t want to tell you about something, fearing that it would upset you. But today, seeing Natalie so recklessly hurting you for another man. I have to tell you.“}
In front of everyone, including Samuel, Emily revealed everything she had seen: me undergoing an abortion with the accompaniment of Chris.[
In her exaggerated account, I became a shameless, cold–blooded woman who had affairs with multiple men within marriage.§ She even insinuated to Samuel that even before they went to the City Clerk’s Office, I had been secretly involved with Chris. Otherwise, how could I agree to a divorce so easily?!
Men, in their anger, always cannot withstand additional fuel to the fire.
I wasn’t surprised at all when Samuel’s eyes turned red and he gritted his teeth, hoarsely asking me if what Emily said was true. “Did you abort my child?”
I fell silent for a moment. Samuel had never felt time passing so slowly.
The ordinary air turned into a deadly poison. He felt suffocated, as if his internal organs were filled with lead, unbearable pain I didn’t look away, quietly watching Samuel./
I witnessed his expression change from the edge of rage to gradual fear and heart–wrenching pain.
‘Natalie, tell me. I don’t believe anyone but you.”
“I only listen to you. I want you to tell me in person, did you abort the child we had been waiting for for ten years?“}]
The usually aloof and self–possessed refined man revealed a look of unprecedented, almost pleading eyes, as lowly as dust.
At this moment, even Sarah, who usually cursed Samuel as a scumbag and wished him dead, couldn’t bear it and turned her head slightly, quietly wiping the corner of her eye.}
Unfortunately, reality is always the most hurtful.
