I looked at his face, weathered and worn, like a man in his fifties or sixties. There was an unpleasant odor emanating from his disheveled appearance.
“I didn’t intentionally keep it from you. It was because you were looking for something better, thinking that I couldn’t offer you any assistance.” I glanced at my phone and continued to stall for time, saying, “Do you still remember why I liked you back then? It was when we
encountered a mudslide, and you turned back to help me.”

was because I couldn’t bear to leave my wallet in the house, so I turned back. Pulling you along was just an afterthought. If it weren’t for the fact that we became competitors later on, do you think I would have dated you? It was merely for the sake of competition that I wanted you to voluntarily withdraw.”
So that was the reason he saved me back then. It was really ridiculous.
Unfortunately, I would not be soft–hearted toward him anymore. I tried hard to delay time and finally waited for the police to arrive and subdue him.
As soon as I saw him, I immediately pressed the emergency call button.
In the end, I only suffered some minor injuries with no significant consequences, while Jeremy was caught, and he would rot in prison.
After Lola was discharged from the hospital, there was no further news about
her.

Occasionally, I reflect on everything, realizing that all this started because of layoffs. It was due to the mismanagement of the company leaders that led to a series of events. I became stricter in my management of the company.
Those employees who tried to take shortcuts had to be dismissed, but those who worked diligently deserved better benefits and treatment. Only with enough talented individuals could my company thrive!
