“Ma’am, your husband and his family are on their way. They’ll soon be here. Please freshen up so you can join them for dinner, Isadora’s favorite maid came closer to her and whispered.
Isadora nodded with a smile. “I just want to make sure everything is perfect. I don’t want any mistakes,” Isadora said while arranging the dishes on the table.
“Please leave the arrangements to us. We are here to help you, the maid insisted. Isadora had been in the kitchen for more than 5 hours preparing what her husband and her in–laws would eat. She wanted to make sure everything came out perfect.
“Ma’am, please,” the maid pleaded, but Isadora didn’t leave until she made sure everything was perfect. She ran to her room afterward, took a shower, and heard the car horns while she was dressing up, which meant that they had arrived.
She quickly adjusted her long plain gown and tied her hair in a tight bun. Her mother–in–law had warned her against letting her hair down, and she didn’t want her to get mad by letting it down.
“Ma’am, they are here,” the voice of her favorite maid cried out from outside the door. Isadora took one last look at the mirror before rushing out to join them.
They went straight to the dining,” one of the maids informed her immediately after she got to the sitting room.
Thank you,” she thanked and moved to the dining area to see her father–in–law, her mother–in–law, her husband Damon, and a strange lady with long dark hair.
“Good evening, Mother. Good evening, Father,” she greeted politely.
“You are here, take a seat,” her mother–in–law said with an eye roll, while her father–in–law didn’t bother to reply to her.
“Okay, she walked to the chair beside her husband’s to see that the strange lady already occupied it.
“What is it?” Her mother–in–law flared up when she noticed her hesitation.
“Nothing, Mother,” she politely bowed.
“Stop with the mother shit and take a seat. I’m not your mother,” her mother–in–law slammed at her, and she quickly took the only chair available, which directly faced her husband.
Her eyes moved between the strange lady who held onto her husband and her husband, who didn’t seem bothered by it. He is letting her touch him, which is really strange, as he is easily irritated by other people’s touch.
Is she his sister? Does he have a sister that I don’t know of? Isadora could only think in that direction.
“We have something to discuss with you today, Isadora,” her father–in–law spoke up for the first time.
“I’m listening, sir,” Isadora quickly took her attention to her father–in–law.
“Why don’t we eat first? Let’s eat,” he changed his mind and suggested. They started eating almost immediately, and Isadora was happy to see that they were enjoying the food, well, not until something happened.
The strange lady started feeding her husband. And he… He accepted her food. Isadora didn’t realize that she had been glaring at them until her fork slipped from her hand and landed on the floor, making a loud noise. But that didn’t bother her; she wanted to know who the strange lady was.
“Who… Who is she?” Isadora asked, her eyes pinned on the pretty lady who had long dark hair and a slim face.
“That is what we came here to discuss with you, Isadora. She is my son’s new wife,” her father–in–law announced, and this info forced her to her feet.
“What… what?” She stuttered in shock and disbelief. She knew her father–in–law and mother–in–law didn’t like her, but she never expected them to agree to their son marrying another wife.
“A second wife?” She asked, still in shock.
“No, she will be his only wife. She is his only wife,” her mother–in–law took over and said.
“I don’t understand,” her eyes moved around the dining, and the look on everyone’s faces told her that everything that was happening was real.
She took her eyes and focused them on her husband, who hadn’t said a word since he came in. He is not a man of many words, but he was never this silent either.
“Da… Damon, what’s happening?” Tears welled up in her eyes as she asked this question.
“Tina and I are getting married, Isadora. We are getting married in two days. She’s also pregnant for me,” Damon finally released the bombshell after keeping quiet for minutes.
“What?!” Isadora’s legs started shaking, and before you know it, she found herself sitting carelessly on the floor.
Isadora saw Damon stand up; he left the dining before her.

“Sign it, it’s the divorce papers,” he said, his voice coming out rough and different. He sounded different from the person she always knew to be her husband.
Tears poured out from her eyes as she looked around the dining. Her in–laws had gone back to their meal. They seem to be enjoying it. The meal she spent hours preparing for them. They are enjoying her meal while she is hurting.
“Why?” She asked, finally standing up to her feet.
“What have I done to deserve this?”
“If you ask that question again, I’ll slap you,” her mother–in–law suddenly rushed to her feet.
“You have been married to my son for three years, and you have refused to give us a child. Tina here has my grandbaby in her stomach, and she is from a known family. She has everything a beautiful woman should have, unlike you, who is from a strange and unknown background.” Her mother–in–law quickly reminded her.
“I won’t sign the divorce papers.” Isadora shook her head in refusal, and her refusal quickly landed her in trouble.
“What did you say?” The strange lady looked up at Isadora with a glare.
“I said I won’t get a divorce. I refuse to get one,” a heavy slap landed on Isadora’s cheek, which had her stumbling back in pain. Before she could recover her footing, her mother–in–law pounced on her and started hitting her all over.
Isadora broke down and started crying loudly while also waiting for Damon to come to her aid. She imagined Damon standing up and stopping his mother’s abuse and also stopping everything that was happening, but none of this happened. Her mother–in–law continued hitting her until she got tired and decided to rest.
“Da… Damon,” Isadora moved her messy hair away so she could look him. Damon had once promised her that he could stand by her and defend her against his family, but right now, he wasn’t fulfilling that promise.
“Come with me,” Damon stood up and walked out of the dining without sparing her a glance.
Isadora helped herself up and dragged her hurting leg with her out of the dining.
“Gather your things. I don’t want to see you here in the next one hour,” with his back to her, Damon stated.
“Why are you doing this to me?” Isadora couldn’t help but ask. “Can’t you see that I’m hurting?” She cried.
Damon turned to face her.
“I can see that, but I don’t care. I don’t care if you hurt, Isadora. I don’t care about you. You are the one who chased after me and made me marry you. Can’t you tell that I don’t love you? And you are also barren. It’s enough reason to send you packing.” Isadora’s breath seized, and it felt like her heart stopped working. She dedicated her life to him during their three years together, she loved him, took care of him, and even accepted all the insults his family threw at her, but in the end, what did she get?
Betrayal from her husband. Insults and beating from his mother.
“Start packing.” Damon turned and made for the door.
“I might die if you leave me, Damon,” Isadora knew it was shameful, but she went on her knees.
“I might seriously die, please.” She begged, hoping he could change his mind, but Damon ignored her and walked out of the room they shared.
