“More like a protector,” the man stood up and walked to the entrance of the waiting room before he continued, “I need a man who will protect her. I’m about to hand all my businesses to her. I need a man who is one hundred percent devoted to her, so if your answers and your actions impress me, then I’ll make you marry her by the end of this month, but if not, then you will never get to see my granddaughter again.” After the man’s words, silence fell in the waiting room.
Damon couldn’t find the right words to reply to the man. Was he joking?
“Is your granddaughter a commodity that you sell to any man you like?” Damon stared at him with annoyance. The offer was tempting, but that would force Isadora to do what she did not want.
“You seem not to understand my intention, young man. I thought you were smart, but a day–old baby is smarter than you are. I’m only looking for someone who will protect her. He doesn’t necessarily have to be a husband to her, just for the image. My granddaughter needs all the protection she can get.”
“You said Isadora doesn’t like being associated with you, am I right?”
“Why do you ask that?” The man turned in Damon’s direction.
“I think I know the reason for that. I think you’re a selfish person who only thinks after yourself; that’s why.”
“Excuse me?”
“Let her off the hook.”
“I can’t. It is important that I do this before my trip to the underworld.”
“Then call Isadora and calmly explain yourself to her, even if she does not listen. Why do we all keep making the same mistakes?” Damon muttered the last part to himself.
“You think I have not tried?”
“I don’t know, but what I know is that marriage is a big decision; she has to choose that herself. It has to be her own decision; you can make her see reasons, but it’s still her decision to make, not yours,” Damon insisted.
“Hmm,”
The old man walked to his chair and took another sip of his tea. When he noticed that the tea had gone cold, he pressed the bell to call for a maid.
A maid arrived shortly after and immediately replaced the teapot before leaving.
“So what is your plan? How do you plan to win her back?”
“My plans are simple. I plan to annoy her.”
“Annoy her?”
“Yes, annoy her till she can’t stand the sight of me again.”
“Is that even a plan?” The man stared at Damon in disbelief. Who was this young man?
“Well…” Damon shrugged his shoulders.
“Okay, I’ve heard you, but you can’t leave until I have made my decision. I’ll let you know of my decision early tomorrow; in

the meantime, make yourself comfortable.” The man pressed the bell again to call a maid.
“Take these gentlemen to their room,” he instructed the maid before disappearing from the waiting room.
“Sir, is this necessary? I still don’t trust this man,” Steve whispered as the maid led them to their room.
“I want to stay and see what happens next; I’m curious too.”
“What if we get attacked in the middle of the night? They might launch an attack on us,” Steve whispered again..
“I am hoping for that.” Damon shrugged.
What? Is Damon serious right now?

And just like Steve had guessed, it came to pass. At exactly five minutes past 1:00 a.m., they heard multiple footsteps drawing closer to the door.
“Sir, I think we’re under attack.” Steve tapped Damon to wake him up.
“So soon?” Damon frowned and sat up on the bed.
“Sir, do not worry; I’ll handle this.”
“No, this is a test for me; stay behind me.”
“What? You are going to fight them?” Steve’s eyes widened.
“That’s what the chairman wants; I’m sure he must be watching us; I want to entertain him.” Damon got down from the bed and rolled up his sleeves.
“Sir, how can I…?” How can he stand there and watch Damon fight?
“Do not fight with me, no matter the number of men that come at me.”
“What if you get injured? What if it’s a big cut?” A lot of things that could possibly go wrong crossed Steve’s mind. Not like he didn’t trust Damon’s skills; Damon’s skills were superior to his, but things could still go wrong. Steve didn’t like the idea of watching Damon fight without helping out, but at Damon’s command, he got behind him.
The moment he stood behind him, they threw the door open, and so many men rushed at Damon at once, but Damon didn’t panic. He just stood there with open arms; welcoming them as if they were his kids.
A smile crossed Steve’s face at Damon’s display; it’s been a while since he saw Damon engage in physical combat.
The first two men that charged at Damon hadn’t even touched him when they met their ends at his feet. With a simple hit from the edge of his hand, he was able to paralyze them.
The next men on the roll charged at him with their knives, but Damon dodged their attack. He grabbed them by their collars and slammed their heads into each other multiple times before letting them fall to his feet.
What is this? Is this a trick? None of the men had fighting skills. There were more than fifty of them, and none of them had fighting skills. The knowledge annoyed Damon.
Was the man trying to get on his nerves or what?
“Sir,” Steve rushed to stand behind Damon after his fight.

“Get the bodies out of the room,” Damon ordered before disappearing into the bathroom to run a bath.
Steve threw the bodies outside the room before locking the door.
Damon came out of the bathroom a few minutes later; he had changed into a bathrobe.
Was he going to wear that to bed?
“What’s the time?” Damon asked him.
“It’s almost 2:00 am, sir.”

“I’ll get back to sleep then.” Damon crawled to bed and closed his eyes. He didn’t get enough sleep when Steve woke him up again.
“Sir, I don’t think we’re finished yet; should I handle them?”
“No, they better be worthy partners this time,” Damon grunted as he rose from bed to fight.
Are you fighting in those robes? Steve wanted to ask him but held himself back.
Damon opened the door to find about fifteen men who were big enough to be called giants.
“I hope you all know a little bit of…” Damon was still talking when one launched at him and slapped him across the cheek.
Steve’s eyes widened, and he immediately took a step forward. What the hell?
