Chapter 27
Natalie stared at the red dress in her hands, which barely managed to cover the private parts. Honestly, if someone told her it was made out of a fishing net, she wouldn’t have argued.
Panicking, she shoved it back into the bag and pulled out another option–a sapphire–blue dress. The moment she unfolded it, her jaw practically
hit the floor..
For a moment, she wasn’t sure, so she held the fabric up to the light. Sure enough, it was sheer, with not even the pretense of hiding anything crucial
Her face turned crimson as she hastily stuffed the dress back into the bag. This time, instead of grabbing a new one, she just rummaged around aimlessly. “This is… beyond words!
Myla, who had been fiddling with a gun from a hidden compartment in the car, caught sight of Natalie out of the corner of her eye.
Seeing Natalie’s hands buried in the bag for what felt like an eternity without producing a single outfit, she couldn’t help but sense something was
Sliding the gun back into its compartment, Myla walked over, initially intending to ask Natalie what was going on. But when her eyes landed on Natalie’s ears, redder than a ripe cherry, she pivoted her attention to Dominik instead,
“Let me guess” Myla asked, her tone cutting. “Did you grab these for that slut?“
Dominik’s striking eyes widened ever so slightly in mock offense, but his lips curled into a sly smile as he held out his hand toward her.
“Myla, don’t worry, I’d never let Lucia find our you called her a slur,” he teased, rubbing his Engers together as if expecting payment. “That kind of loyalty? Worth at least three grand”
Myla, unimpressed, smacked the back of his head with a loud thwack. “You money–grubber. Always with the cash? And I’d call her that to her face.”
Switching gears, she gave him a pointed look. “Find something decent. The boss wants to take her to see Darius Gardet
Dominik froze for a moment, his eyes flicking instinctively toward Jonas. Scratching the back of his ear, he turned back to Natalie with a puzzled look. “Little cutie, just who are you?”
Myla, though admittedly entertained by the idea of Dominik and Jonas clashing over Natalie, knew this wasn’t the right time for such drama. The stakes were far too high, and the plan ahead was precarious enough without Dominik doing something impulsive to throw everything off track.
Still, she couldn’t entirely read Jonas’s intentions toward Natalie, and the uncertainty grawed at her. Keeping her voice deliberately casual, she Issued a subtle but pointed reminder to Dominik.
“She’s a decent girl” Myla said, deliberately vague, as if trying to keep the peace while not committing to any particular story,
Relieved to hear even a crumb of normalcy, Natalie nodded furiously in agreement, grateful someone was at least attempting to clarify her position
Dominik, though easygoing by nature, didn’t back down. His eyes stayed on Natalie, smoldering with curiosity that made her skin crawl.
Before the tension could escalate further, Jonas, who had been quiet up until now, suddenly chuckled and dropped a bomb. “She’s Jonas Lawson’s fiancée,” he said smoothly.
Dominik blinked, his head tilting slightly to the side as though trying to process the words
Ha mind worked quickly he was clueless when it came to emotional nuances, but his IQ was sharp enough to catch details most would miss. “The bow’s fancee! But who the hell introduces their fiancée like that?
Jonas cur Dominik off before he could get a word out, his tone lazy, almost mocking, as though he were tossing out a joke he didn’t care if anyone found funny. “She’s my enemy’s hancée,” Jonas said.
to them, a sly grin
As he said this, Jonas flicked his cigarette to the ground and crushed it under his boot. Then he looked up, his gaze locking onto curving his lips, the kind that screamed trouble. “Oh, but as of now, she’s mine,”
Dominik’s mind whirred like a well–oiled machine. Having shadowed jonas since he was fourteen, he knew the man had layers upon layers to his identity, each one more enigmatic than the last.
Catching the wide–eyed panic that flashed across Natalie’s face at Jonas’s words, Dominik realized she had taken him seriously. She clearly had no idea that the man she was dealing with was Jonas.

And Jonas, ever the devil, had chosen his words deliberately. He was giving Dominik a heads–up not to let the truth slip.
Dominik smirked inwardly, ‘Oh, we’re playing games now, huh? This girl must be something special if the boss is willing to stick around and play along!
Unable to suppress his amusement and excitement, he shot Jonas a quick wink, silently signaling he understood the assignment and his lips were sealed.
Natalie, meanwhile, tensed at the mention of Jonas’s name, her nerves tightening like a coiled spring. When Jonas brought up the word “enemy“, her chest clenched.
والذي
The last thing she needed was for Jonas to dredge up old grievances or, worse, for Dominik and Jonas Lawson to have some kind of bad blood. That would make her situation even more dangerous.
Risking a glance at Dominik, she noted he didn’t seem angry. In fact, he looked excited. The energy rolling off him was almost glreful, and that bizarrely put her a little more at ease.
As the initial panic ebbed, Natalie couldn’t shake the sense that Jonas’s words were calculated. Though she was bursting with questions, her instincts screamed that now wasn’t the time to pry.
Satisfied that Dominik had caught on, Jonas decided to end the charade. Pushing himself off the car with an easy stride, he made his way over.
Standing beside Nat
Natalie, he didn’t hesitate he pulled her firmly into his arms, his body leaning lazily against hers as if it were the most natural thing in the world
Before Natalie could react, Jonas reached into the worn–out bag and unceremoniously dumped its contents into the open trunk. Out tumbled a chaotic splash of skimpy dresses in every bright, clashing color imaginable, none of which looked capable of covering much at all
Jonas let out a dry chuckle, one brow arching in mock disdain. “Dominik, you planning to open a red–light district or s
Dominik, puzzled, glanced down at the pile. The moment he realized what Jonas was talking about, his reaction was immediate.”
something?
“Holy shit,” he yelped, diving forward to scoop the clothes back into the bag. “Damn it, wrong bag. My bad.” Despite his words of apology, therŁ wasn’t a trace of remorse in his expression. Instead, be grinned like a mischievous fox caught mid–scheme.
“These were for my first field test in bed. Dominik’s tone was shameless as he clutched the bag to his chest and bolted toward his car
Opening the back door, he showed the bag inside before rummaging through what appeared to be an equally chaotic mess. After a solid minute of digging, Dominik triumphantly pulled out another battered bag under the seal.
This time, he was smarter about it. He unzipped it first, peering inside to confirm its contents. Seeing the delicate yet tasteful skirts he’d picked up for Lucia, each one showcasing the distinctive craftsmanship of Nocrudor, he nodded to himself
“Got it,” he announced, cradling the bag like a prized trophy as he jogged back to the group, a grin plastered across his face.
He shoved the bag toward Natalie, a playful grin tugging at his lips. “Take your pick. But if there’s anything you like in there, consider it on the house
Natalie immediately shook her head, glancing instinctively at Jonas, who still had an arm casually draped around her shoulders. His only response was a subtle tilt of his chin, a silent gesture of approval Reluctantly, she reached for the bag and began rummaging through it
The contents were striking—a collection of distinctive dresses, each with its own charm. However, most of them were backless designs, elegantly bold but for from subde.
Though they were undeniably beautiful, Natalie’s current awkward position made her feel the need to tread carefully. She decided it was better to stick to something conservative, something that wouldn’t draw too much attention.
Earlier, she had already spent quite some time picking out clothes earlier. Worried about wasting everyone’s time, Natalie quickly selected a modest spaghetti–strap dress, not wanting to test anyone’s patience any further. However, a new dilemma arose she had no idea where she was supposed to change
Looking up at Jonas hesitantly, she caught his gaze. His hand, still resting on her shoulder, did upward to pinch her dirt–smudged cheek lightly.
“Why not get closer to nature?” he said, his tone teasing. Right here should do, don’t you think?“.
Natalie’s head practically fell off from how vigorously she shook it, her face burning. She prayed he was joking, but with Jonas, she could never tell If he decided to indulge his mischievous streak and insisted, she’d have no choice but to comply.
Summoning her courage, she tugged gently at the hem of his shirt, tilting her head up to meet

you’re taking me to meet someone!
“How about I wash my face first in that house over there! Otherwise, looking like this. I’ll only embarrass you.”
Her voice was soft, almost pleading, as she pulled at his shirt, her eyes shimmering with a mixture of hope and careful flattery
Jonas chuckled, watching her tag at him with such an adorably pitiful expression. He thought, I really spoiled her, didn’t I? Not just scared anymore
she’s learning to sweet–talk me now!”
“Fine” he said, releasing his arm from around her shoulders. “Go wash that dirty little face of yours. Can’t have people thinking I can’t even take care of a woman.”
The moment he let go. Natalie wasted no time. She turned to Myla, her voice suddenly bright and sweet. “Ms. Carr, would you mind helping me fix my hair?”
Myla nodded, and Natalie, not missing a beat, slipped her arm through Myla’s in a gesture so familiar it was almost sisterly. Together, they headed toward the nearby empty house, Natalie chattering with an air of relief.
But Natalie had her reasons for clinging to Myla. She wasn’t about to risk being left behind while she changed, and having Myla with her felt like Insurance
Jonas remained where he was, his sharp eyes following the petite figure that now walked arm–in–arm with Myla. At the sound of that sugary “Ms. Carr, he glanced down briefly at the hem of his shirt where her small hand had clung moments ago.
When he looked up again, the playful laziness in his expression was gone, replaced by something darker, something unreadable.
