“Why are you here alone?” Sarah stood on the stairs, glaring at me with an irritated
expression. “Where’s Dominic? Where did he go? Didn’t I tell you to visit us, not a game? What kind of new husband like this, empty–handed at that? Charlotte, do you want the neighbors to laugh at me?*
I didn’t respond.
Sarah stormed up to me in a few strides and snapped, “Charlotte, is it true that your life is such a mess that the Montgomery family found out? Can’t you live without a man? Just wait until I slap that shameless face of yours off! You’ve embarrassed the Clark family!”
She raised her hand, about to hit me.
She didn’t even care to find out if Madison’s accusations about my messy private life were
true or just slander. She had already condemned me.
I wasn’t stupid, so I certainly wasn’t going to just stand there and let her hit me.
When she saw me step back, her anger only grew. “You dare avoid me, you ungrateful brat!
Kneel down right now!”
1 suddenly burst out laughing. “I married Dominic empty–handed, so why can’t I come back
home empty–handed too?
What’s wrong with that?”
Sarah froze for a second. “You…”

I smiled slightly, “Actually, I’m not completely empty–handed. After all, the Montgomery
gave me a ten–million–dollar engagement gift. How about you give me that gift so I can buy some presents and pile them at the door? That should be enough to make the neighbors take notice, right?”
Sarah’s face turned red with fury. She was momentarily speechless.
“Rogue!” Thomas scolded sharply. “Without us, you’d be nothing! And now you’re asking for an engagement gift? We gave you life and raised you…”
He seemed to remember that they hadn’t actually raised me.
Thomas paused, then added, “Anyway, you’re not getting that engagement gift.”
“That’s a gift from the Montgomery family to me. Why can’t I have it?” I wasn’t planning to keep the money, but now that Thomas was being so stubborn, I wanted it even more.
After a brief standoff, Madison said, “What a big diamond ring. It must be fake. Charlotte, you too, you’ve been wronged and didn’t even bother to come home and tell Mom and Dad about it. Besides, you know Jaxon can’t afford a real diamond ring, yet you purposely brought back a fake one to hurt me. We’re family, after all. If you want to blame someone for the past, blame me. I took your parents, and more importantly, I took your position as the heiress of the Clark family. None of this has anything to do with Mom and Dad. Madison put on an understanding look but was secretly stabbing me in the back. Not only was she trying to drive a wedge between me and my real parents, but she was also trying to trample me underfoot, using her supposed rebirth as a way to get revenge for the suffering and grievances of her past life. But it was her own choice to marry Dominic in the previous life. The Clark family was never meant to be hers. From the moment I returned to the Clark family, she’d been on guard against me, constantly trying to drive me out so she could have everything to
horsell
Just because ignored her, she thought I was easy to bully.
“Madison, stop making stuff up. Dominic treats me well, and I haven’t been wronged by the
Montgomery family,” I said the truth calmly.
Madison didn’t take that well. She didn’t even notice that I was setting her up. Without
skipping a beat, she said, “Dominic went to a club to meet other women on your wedding night.
And you’re still defending him?”
“No wonder you didn’t want to marry Dominic that day. You must’ve known he was unfaithful but still cruelly pushed me into the fire pit.”
I pulled out my phone and played a recording
“Charlotte, this time, the Mrs. Bennett title is mine. You can only marry that flirt, Dominic.
Goodbye.”
Madison froze, clearly not expecting me to have recorded the conversation.
I continued, “Lot’s not talk about whether my private life is messy or not. Based on this recording alone, Dominic’s visit to the club had nothing to do with me! At the time, the Montgomery family didn’t even know that the bride had been swapped. As for your talk about honoring our parents, your biological mother is still washing dishes at a restaurant. Why don’t you go honor her first?”
This had all happened in the second year after Jaxon’s rise to fame. Jaxon was still on the
rise, though, and hadn’t hit it big yet.
Madison finally realized what was going on. She stared at me in shock, her face full of
disbelief. “You’re also reborn?”
I smiled slightly. “We died together, so of course, we live together. Wouldn’t you feel lonely if
you were the only one left?”
At my words, Madison’s face turned pale, and she collapsed onto the floor.
Although she lost her balance and fell on her own, Sarah, who was nearby, immediately
assumed I had pushed Madison.
She demanded that I apologize to Madison immediately.
“So, you think I should apologize too?” I turned to Thomas.

Wed,
At my words, Madison’s face turned pole, and she collapsed onto the floor.
Although she lost her balance and fell on her own, Sarah, who was nearby, immediately assumed I had pushed Madison.
She demanded that I apologize to Madison immediately
“So, you think I should apologize too?” I turned to Thomas.
By now, anyone with a bit of sense should have realized that Madison was clearly trying to frame me.
Sarah might be blind to it, but Thomas had been in the business world long enough to see through such petty tricks.
Yet Thomas said, “It’s your fault. You should apologize, Charlotte. How long are you going to keep causing trouble?”
“Causing trouble??”
Now, I finally understood.
It wasn’t that Madison was greedy or arrogant. She was spoiled, so she felt invincible.
Even though there were so many holes in her story, both Thomas and Sarah still chose to side with her.
No wonder she was so confident when she said, “Everything in the Clark family will be mine.” All along, I was nothing but a joke!!
I was adopted by the Marshall family when I was eight years old, or perhaps bought would
be more accurate.
The
nanny who took me away was Madison’s real mother, who had been caught stealing and was sent to jail by Sarah.
Out of spite, she switched me with Madison when Sarah was giving birth.
After that, she gambled and hit me whenever she was in a bad mood.
There were times I thought she would beat me to death, yet somehow, I survived until I was eight.
That Christmas, I had a fever and was delirious. She actually kicked me.
She hated that I was a bad omen, so she purposely picked on me for getting sick right around Christmas‘.
My future foster mother, Grace Marshall, passed by and saw me lying there in a pitiful state. She spent 100 thousand dollars to bring me home. When she saw my scars, she cried right
away.
It was only then that I finally understood what family meant and what mom could feel like, so warm and caring.
To repay Grace for her kindness, I worked hard and studied like my life depended on it. In my sophomore year, I was granted admission to a prestigious foreign university. When I returned after graduation, Grace told me she didn’t want me to have any regrets she secretly helped me find my biological family.
I decided to be cautious.
I waited in the countryside, hoping the Clark family would come to get me. They thought!

she secretly helped me find my biological family.
I decided to be cautious.
I waited in the countryside, hoping the Clark family would come to get me. They thought I was just a poor, unremarkable girl from the mountains.
In the two years I spent with the Clark family, I tried to get closer to them.
But they only had eyes for Madison.
Since that was the case, it was time to draw a line.
“If you want me to apologize, return my engagement gift!” I said firmly.
Before I could finish, Thomas slapped me across the face.
“Get out!!”
Thomas pointed to the door. “I don’t have a daughter like you, who only knows how to stir up trouble and is ungrateful. Get out now!”
I held my swollen cheek, “Fine. I’ll forget about the ten–million–dollar engagement gift. I won’t hold this slap against you. I’ll use that 10 million dollars and this slap to cut ties with you all. From now on, we’ll stay out of each other’s way!”
With that, I turned and walked away.

“Charlotte, Charlotte, don’t just say things out of anger…” Madison started her act again.
Thomas gritted his teeth, “Madison, come back! Let her go. Doesn’t she think she’s so capable? Without the Clark family, Dominic will only despise her more. When that happens, let her cry. If I don’t teach her a lesson, she’ll never understand how important the Clark family is!*
“Okay.”
Madison gave him a sweet smile.
Just then, Jaxon drove up in a BMW 7 series, one of the wedding gifts from the Clark family to Madison.
When he saw me, Jaxon seemed like he was about to greet me, but Madison rushed over as if she was afraid I’d steal Jaxon away from her.
“Honey, where have you been? I missed you so much.” She jumped into his arms and kissed him on tiptoe.
The kiss was loud enough to hear!
I knew exactly what Madison was doing. She thought my relationship with Dominic was bad, so she was deliberately showing off her love with Jaxon.
Just then, a series of car horns blared, and six black cars drove up.
The one at the front was Dominic’s.
