Chapter 1
After a quick shopping spree at Brookfield Place, I had the perfect idea: surprise Edgar at his office and take him out for lunch. In my hand, I clutched a small black box–the Cartier watch I’d bought as a birthday gift for him. I couldn’t wait to see the look on his face.”
When I stepped onto his floor, it was oddly quiet, Even his secretary’s desk was empty. Strange, but I shrugged it off and headed straight for his office.
I reached the door and carefully turned the handle, wanting my surprise to go off without a hitch. But before I could step in, I heard it. a woman’s soft sigh, followed by a man’s voice
“Grace, you always keep me satisfied.”
My chest tightened, and my heart started pounding. That voice. It was Edgar. My husband.
And Grace? What the hell was she doing in there?||
I slowly pushed the door open, and my worst nightmare unfolded right in front of me. Edgar and Grace were all over each other, completely lost in their own world. Their bodies pressed together like they couldn’t get enough of each other!
I froze. My hands clenched around the box so tightly, my nails dug into my skin. The sting didn’t matter, though–nothing hurt more than seeing this. After everything I’d done for Edgar, after sacrificing so much to save him when his life was on the line, this was how he repaid me?
And Grace. The same woman Edgar had introduced to me as his cousin on our wedding day!! “What the hell is going on here!?” I burst into the room, slamming the door open so hard it echoed.
Edgar jumped back, and Grace scrambled to fix her clothes, her face a mix of shock and guilt. “So this is how you’ve been spending my money?” I asked, my voice cold and sharp.
Edgar’s nervous expression quickly shifted to one of indifference. He shrugged, almost casually, like he didn’t have a care in the world. “Guess it’s good you found out now, Sharon, Saves me from lying to you any longer. I never loved your
His words hit me like a punch to the gut, but I refused to cry. Instead, I threw the box at his feet. The watch tumbled out, landing among the lunch I’d brought for him.
Grace squealed as some of the food splattered onto her designer shoes. Edgar immediately moved to shield her, which only made my blood boil more.
“What’s wrong with you!?” Edgar barked, glaring at me.
I smirked, crossing my arms as I turned my attention to Grace. “Long time no see, Grace. What’s it been? A year? Two? I guess it’s been long enough for you to forget your morals “X
“Sharon, don’t start,” Edgar snapped.
“Oh, I’m just calling it like I see it” I said, my tone dripping with sarcasm. “What was that whole cousin act about, huh? Covering for your affair? Nice touch.“%
“Watch your mouth, Sharon,” Edgar wamed, his jaw tight
“Or what?” I shot back. “You’ll slap me? Cheat on me again?“%
Before he could respond, Grace stepped in, her voice soft and sickly sweet. “Edgar, maybe you should calm down. She’s upset, understandably so.”
I laughed bitterly. “Upset doesn’t even begin to cover it. But you know what? If you don’t love me, let’s end this. Divorce me. That way. you and your cousin can live happily ever after
“Grace is my cousin,” Edgar snapped, his voice defensive and almost pathetic.
“Sure she is,” I said, rolling my eyes. “You’re both disgusting.
Without warning, Edgar’s hand shot out and slapped me across the face. The sting was sharp, and I could taste blood at the corner of my mouth. I stumbled slightly, but I caught myself.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Grace smirking. She was enjoying this.X
“Watch your tone, Sharon,” Edgar growled. “You’ve gotten too comfortable. You need to be put in your place.“l
I steadied myself and forced a smile, even though every part of me wanted to scream. “You think you’ve been spoiling me? That’s hilarious, Edgar. You’ve been living off my money this whole time.”
Grace gently touched his arm, her tone fake and syrupy. “Edgar, don’t. You’ve been too hard on her already. Look, she’s scared.”)
“Feel sorry for yourself, Grace,” I snapped. “Because once I’m gone, you’re not getting a dime from me. Neither of you are
Without waiting for a response, I tumed and walked out. The room felt suffocating, and I couldn’t stand being there another second. I’d come here with plans to celebrate Edgar’s birthday, to share happy news with him. Instead, I uncovered a betrayal that cut deeper than I thought possible.
But I wasn’t going to let this destroy me. Edgar’s affair wasn’t the end of my story. I had a life to live and secre
