Chapter 18
“Are you sure you want to meet her, Sharon?” Nathan followed me out of his unit his jacket slung casually over his shoulder “We could just report this to the police, he suggested again.
at yet And
I shook my head, unwilling to take the matter to legal authorities Grace’s actions hadn’t truly impacted me–at least, not thanks to Nathan’s quick intervention, the news hadn’t spread too far
“I don’t want to escalate the situation,” I said, glancing back at him. Wouldn’t that only humiliate me further? Besides, even if I deny everything, people will assume it’s just an excuse“}
Nathan nodded, thankfully not pressing the issue. I was confident I could handle this on my own.
Besides, I would feel guilty if my actions led to a pregnant woman like Grace ending up in jail, even if she had brought this upon
herself.
We headed down to the basement, abandoning my original plan to rest that afternoon I made a mental note to apologize to my kids for dragging them around so much lately
“Let me drive,” Nathan said, stepping in front of me as I reached for the dower’s seat. “You shouldn’t overexert yourself. They’ll feel it
I nodded, not arguing this time. He was right—I was exhausted
Nathan drove toward Rose Feiss Boulevard, the address of my former penthouse The distance wasn’t for, but it was enough for me to relax, even if only by sitting comfortably in the car
When we arrived, we stepped out and approached the guard at the front gate
“Can I see Grace?” I asked🙂)
“Sorry, malam. Ms. Simon isn’t here,” the guard replied })
“Where is she?
The two guards exchanged glances before shaking their heads. It was clear they had no idea.
Didn’t Edgar and Grace live here after they got marned?.
“If that’s the case, can we meet Edgar?” Nathan asked, speaking on my behalf when I hesitated.
Right. If we couldn’t find Grace, we should at least speak to Edgar. Though the thought of facing my ex–husband again made me uneasy. Just hearing his name sometimes brought back painful memories
Before the guard could respond, a car pulled up to the gate. I recognized it immediately–Edgar’s car
The guards opened the gate, and the luxury vehicle glided through smoothly. But what stunned me wasn’t the car–it was Edgar mself.
“Sharon,” he called
The man who had once been so arrogant, so commanding, now sat in a wheelchair. His face was pale, his clothes simple, a stark contrast to his usual sharp office attire. His gaze–so often cold and unyielding–now held sorrow, regret.
What had happened to him?
Someone pushed Edgar’s wheelchair forward, bringing him closer to where Nathan and I stood. His eyes flickered between us. “What brings you here?” His voice was weak, devoid of hostility)
I hesitated. What had changed Edgar?
“Where’s your wife?” Nathan asked, cutting through the moment of silence i
Edgar frowned. “Grace? Why are you looking for her?“}}
Nathan and I exchanged glances. This wasn’t the time to explain everything.”
Edgar seemed to understand. He let out a quiet sigh. “At first, I didn’t know where she was,” he admitted.
His expression was open, honest–there was no deception in his eyes. “She disappeared after I was diagnosed with cancer.”
“Cancer?” Nathan asked, his tone sharp with surprise.
Edgar turned to me, his gaze heavy with something I couldn’t name I looked away, unwilling to be affected by what I saw!
He exhaled softly. “You know, Sharon, the cancer, it came back.” He offered a weak smile. “And I’ve lost all hope because there’s something impossible for me to ask of you again.”
I clenched my hands into fists. “We’re done, Edgar,” I said, forcing my voice to remain steady.!!
I wouldn’t let this change anything I wouldn’t let his condition erase the betrayals he had inflicted on me.
Edgar reached for my hand, but I instinctively pulled away Nathan stepped between us, his presence a solid barrier
“Sharon, Edgar said, his voice laced with desperation. “Is there no chance for me?“%
I turned my head, refusing to meet his gaze. I couldn’t bring myself to lash out at someone so clearly defeated, but that didn’t mean i would give in, either.
Nathan’s grip on my waist tightened, his voice firm.it
“Enough of this drama,” he said, his possessiveness unmistakable.
I glanced up at him, catching the intensity in his expression. Cerp’s gaze. He was right–I wouldn’t contradict a single word that was about to leave his mouth
“We don’t need your pleas, Mr. Harrison,” Nathan continued, his tone sharp with disdain, “Sharon left because of your own mistakes, so don’t act like you’re the only one who’s suffering.
Without another word, Nathan took my hand and led me back to the car. I let him. My body felt drained, my resolve dangerously close to crumbling.
The dove back was silent. Nathan kept his focus on the road, though I caught him glancing at me now and then. I stared out the window, my thoughts tangled
Should I feel angry? Should I feel sorry?!
I didn’t know!
After a long silence, Nathan spoke, his voice gentle. “Are you okay?“;
I nodded, though it was a lie
Nathan didn’t push me to talk. He simply returned his attention to the road, giving me the space I needed.
When we arrived at my apartment, I went straight to my unit. I showered, hoping to wash away the exhaustion weighing on me
By the time I collapsed onto my bed, fatigue overtook me I wasn’t sure how long I slept, but when I woke, I felt lighter. Not better, but not as heavy as before
Nathan was sitting beside the bed, watching me with quiet concem |

Nathan nodded, but his eyes told me he didn’t believe me.
“I know you’re not he murmured. “But I’m here. You don’t have to go through this alone,”
My heart clenched. His words were so soft, so steady, they made me want to trust him.
Nathan leaned in slightly, his face close to mine. I could feel the warmth of his breath, the quiet intensity in his gazel
“Sharon,” he said, his voice almost a whisper. “I really like you I like them.”
My breath caught
Nathan–the man who had once been nothing but an annoyance–was confessing his feelings. And somehow, I couldn’t bring myself to push him away.
He moved even closer, his lips brushing against mine. The air between us crackled with tension
And when our lips finally met, it was soft, tender yet filled with an unspoken longing.
The kiss deepened, sending a thrill through me, leaving me breathless. But I didn’t care.
Because for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was exactly where I was meant to be
