Chapter 26
A month had passed since Grace’s arrest, and she was sentenced to twenty years in prison. However, due to her mental illness, she was transferred to a mental hospital for rehabilitation.
Today, I’m preparing to pick up the twins, who have been undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past two months. They were declared healthy, and their condition had improved significantly, allowing them to return home
Even so, I decided to hire a doctor to monitor the twins progress at our apartment. Nathan’s unit had been remodeled into a private medical room, fully equipped for the care of our twins–Gabriel and George.
“Are you ready to meet the kids? Nathan asked, his grip on my hand tightening, giving me a warm feeling.
I nodded eagerly “I can’t wait to see them every day.”
Nathan nodded as well, equally excited about bringing the twins home.ll
Up until now, we had only been able to visit the hospital briefly, leaving us with little time to spend with the G–twins. But now, we would have all the time in the world to play with them.
Nathan n and I headed to the NICU, where we met Dr. Stephen, who had been handling the twins‘ care
“Good morning, Mrs. Sharon,” he greeted kindly. “How are you today?”
“I’m fine, though I’m feeling a little nervous,” I smiled stiffly, a mix of excitement and nervousness flooding me at the thought of finally bringing Gabriel and George home
“How are our boys” Nathan asked, looking at Dr Stephen with concem ⠀⠀
“They’re doing much better. They can’t wait to meet their parents.” Dr. Stephen replied:
He led us into the NICU, showing us the baby incubators containing our handsome twins
They looked healthy and strong!
“Hi, Gabriel,” I greeted the boy, who looked at me e with his round eyes. Then I turned to George “Hi, George
“The nurse will check on them before they leave this room. We can talk about their condition in the next room. Dr. Stephen explained.X We nodded, waved goodbye to the twins, and followed him to the adjacent room.
Once there, Dr. Stephen handed us a paper with the results of the twins‘ examination
He smiled kindly. Their weight is normal. There are no signs of respiratory issues, and their body temperature is stable. You can take them home today”
Nathan and exchanged a look of disbelief and joy it was hard to believe that we could finally take Gabriel and George home after all this time in the hospital. A wave of relief and happiness filled my heart
“Thank you. Doctor, Nathan said, his voice filled with gratitude.
Dr. Stephen nodded. “I’m glad I could help Just make sure you monitor their health regularly and take good care of them.”
We promised to do so, then left the NICU with our hearts brimming with joy ready to begin this new chapter in our lives as parents. When we arrived home, we quickly prepared everything for the twins. A cute and cozy nursery had been set up, complete with all the necessary equipment…
As we entered the house, Gabriel and George seemed cheerful and active. They cried and squirmed, as if overjoyed to be in their new
home…
I couldn’t help but smile at the sight of them. After everything I’d been through these past few months, it felt like a dream to have them as part of my family
“Welcome home, G–twins Nathan said, his tone full of lovel
We hugged the twins tightly and kissed them. We sincerely hoped that they would grow and develop well and that we could be good parents to them:
“Looks like they’re hungry,” Nathan said.
Inodded. George seemed to be playing with his tiny lips as if regretting something, while Gabriel continued to squirm restlessly. “Let me feed them,” I said, eager to nurse both my children at once
“Won’t that be too much trouble? You could feed one of them first” Nathan suggested, seeing how difficult it might be to breastfeed
both at the same time.
“it’s okay, I’m sure I can manage. I reassured him
At home. I learned all about taking care of twins–how to soothe them if they cried simultaneously, as twins are emotionally connected
Nathan sat beside me, gently poking Gabriel’s cheek as he sipped the milk. Gabriel’s cheeks moved adorably, and his little hands occasionally slapped against my chest
“Sharon,” Nathan called softly, though his gaze remained on the children.
I turned my head to him.
“What kind of wedding do you want?” he asked, his tone senious.
I paused for a moment, trying to find the right words. We’d discussed marriage before
Although I hadn’t been apart from Edgar for too long, Nathan’s seriousness made me feel a bit guilty about not fulfilling his request.
Although I hadn’t been apart from Edgar for too long, Nathan’s seriousness made me feel a bit quilty about not fulfilling his request
He wanted to marry me as soon as possible. I was fine with that, but there was a nagging feeling in my heart.
Would I be able to make this marriage work?
Would Nathan betray me, like Edgar had?
Would Nathan accept my children and love them as he loved me?!!
Would-
“Sharon Nathan’s voice broke through my thoughts as he moved closer, making me instinctively look away.
It always happened like this. Nathan had a way of getting me worked up over the smallest things.
“I don’t know,” I replied. “I just want you by my side, until death do us part. No divorce, no betrayal, no-
“Nope,” he interrupted, placing a quick kiss on my lips and cupping my face with both hands. “No one will ever make you feel scared again, Sharon. I’ll always be here for you, for them, for our relationship. I promise.”
I smiled, nodding. I believed him. Nathan had always kept his promises
I should never have doubted him
We both fell silent, our eyes closing as Nathan brought his face closer to mine, kissing me softly
What began as a gentle kiss soon deepened into something more, a quiet but undeniable feeling of happiness and belonging
It was proof that we loved each other and nothing–nothing–could ever separate us.
