Chapter 7:
A week had passed since I decided to leave Edgar. I threw myself into my career–the one I had neglected while helping him build his company. Returning as the president of the company I had built before our marriage, I immersed myself in an endless stream of clients and meetings…
Despite my absence of over a year, the company had been running smoothly under the leadership of my trusted confidant. I thought everything would remain stable–until my head manager informed me that the company had lost tens of thousands of dollars in just one week.
I wasted no time heading to the IT department, the heart of our data security, determined to understand how such a massive loss had slipped through unnoticed.
“Have you found anything yet?” I asked Howard, the DBA, who was staring at the monitor with a deep frow
“We’re still searching, maam,” he replied, his fingers flying over the keyboard.
I nodded, my gaze fixed on the screen that was processing and securing company data. My phone suddenly rang–Edgar. I answered out of habit before I could stop myself
“How’s it going?” His voice dnpped with amusement
“What do you mean?
“Even with all your money. you still can’t stand on your own, can you. Sharon? You finally realize it now, after your company starts bleeding money. His laugh was sharp and smug, making my stomach churn
My fingers tightened around the phone. “You” growled under my breath, careful not to alert my employees.
I strode out of the room, my fists clenching
“Once your company collapses, you’ll come back to me,” Edgar continued smoothly. “Come back, and forget about this ndiculous
divorce
“Never” I bit out, each word laced with finality.
“You’ll see, dear,” he taunted. “Who will survive you or your ego?“)
The call ended before I could fire back. My breath came out in a sharp exhale, frustration boiling in my veins. Did he really think I’d come crawling back just because he was sabotaging my company?
I immediately called Hazel, a trusted colleague in data analysis?
“I need a hacker. A good one. Now I said without preamble:
“Already on it,” Hazel replied smoothly. Hell be there in twenty minutes.
“Name?“3
She chuckled knowingly. “You never trust strangers, do you? We have a unique password system. Ask him for it–if he answers orrectly, he’s legit.”
“You’re sure it can’t be compromised?”
“Sharon, do you doubt me that much?” she teased. “Relax. If you didn’t trust me, you wouldn’t have called me, right?”
I sighed. “Fine, Ill meet him myself,”
Twenty minutes later, as Hazel had promised, a man arrived at the front desk. Dressed in a hoodie and jeans, he stood with an air of quiet confidence. A black mask covered the lower half of his face, but his sharp blue eyes locked onto me the moment I approached
“Hello, I greeted, my voice firm.
Without hesitation, he responded with the password Hazel had given me. “IFNMP“:
I studied him briefly, noting his observant gaze. He wasn’t just looking at me he was reading me. A critical thinker. Someone who didn’t miss details.
I gestured for his ID “Business card?”
He handed it over “Cera ”
After verifying his identity, I led him to the fifteenth floor, where the server room was located.
The moment we entered, heads turned
“Any updates?” I asked the team.
of our data is safe. The financial records,
“Someone accessed our servers, ma’am. It was a ransomware attack, but the majority of however, were breached–some funds were transferred to a foreign account.
I turned to Cero, who had already stepped forward. Without waiting for further instruction, he took over a workstation, his fingers moving rapidly across the keyboard Within minutes, he had what I needed.
“Account number ******, registered under Edgar Harrison. Residence: Rose Feiss Boulevard. Transferred amount: one hundred thousand dollars. No withdrawals, no transactions in the past twenty–four hours.” He glanced back at me. “Need anything else?”
“Can you track who sent the virus?”
Cero nodded, refocusing. His fingers flew over the keyboard again
“Slitery90 Hard to pin down–whoever it is, they have strong identity protection.“%
Lexhaled “That’s enough for now”
“Slitery90, Hard to pin down–whoever it is, they have strong identity protection
Texhaled “That’s enough for now.”
Even though I already knew Edgar was behind this, seeing proof made my stomach chum. I had funded his entire lifestyle–spoiled
him, even. No wonder he had the means to hire a hacker)
But I wasn’t going to let him ruin what I had built.
After work, I stopped by my boutique. My assistant had taken over its management while I focused on finalizing my divorce. But before I could even take a breath, I spotted Edgar–alongsade Grace.
They were browsing through dresses, seemingly lost in conversation. I tried to ignore them, but Grace had other plans.
“Sharon Long time no see” she called, approaching with a wide, artificial smile
I forced a polite one in return “Grace
“I was hoping you could recommend a dress,” she said enthusiastically
I arched my brow 1 employ plenty of staff here. Im sure they can help you.”
Grace let out an exaggerated laugh, but before she could respond, Edgar stepped in
“Could you be a little more professional, Sharon? His voice was sharp. “If you refuse to acknowledge Grace as my cousin, at least recognize her as a paying customer”
I tilted my head, “What exactly did i Say that was unprofessional?”
Edgar’s jaw lightened, but before he could lash out, Grace placed a hand on his chest.
y we came here
“Never mind, Edgar,” she cooed. “Sharon’s night. There are plenty of employees who can assist us. Let’s not forget why we
in the first place, okay?
I nearly rolled my eyes. She was shameless. No wonder she had been able to worm her way into Edgar’s life.k
Folding my arms, I smirked. “Shopping for a wedding dress? My gaze flicked to Edgar, cold and unwavering. “Til even give it to you
for free. On one condition I met his eyes. “Sign the divorce papers. And promise to stay out of my life.”
Grace’s smile faltered, but Edgar’s reaction was immediate–his fists clenched, his eyes burning with barely restrained anger.
“You’re making a mistake, Sharon,” he seethed.
I shrugged “Maybe But at least it’s mine to make
With that, I turned on my heel, walking away without another glance.
I was done being manipulated. Done being played. And no matter what Edgar th
tried next–I would be ready
