The man was also looking at me. After a while, he moved his gaze away and said with a smile in his voice, “Sorry everyone, there was traffic. I’ll punish myself with a drink.”
Saying that, the man threw back a glass.
“My name is Maxwell. I hope we can get along well in the future.”
He said this while looking at me.
I lowered my head, not daring to look anywhere else. Sweat gradually formed in my palm, feeling like there was a knife hanging over my head.
I could feel that person looking at me. I felt suffocated by everything around me.
“Caleb? Caleb, what’s wrong?” The person next to me noticed my discomfort and asked with some concern.
I bit my lip and forced a smile, “I’m not feeling well.”
“Caleb’s not feeling well! Can someone take him home?”
Then I felt the gaze that had just moved away return to me.
Me: “…”
You’re a good person, next time don’t be so eager to help.
Maxwell frowned slightly, “I’ll go. You guys eat first, I’ll treat you all again tomorrow.”
I screamed “no” in my heart, but could only watch helplessly as I was supported to Maxwell’s side.
The moment Maxwell’s dry, warm hand touched me, my body felt like it had been electrified.
Walking in the corridor, Maxwell supported me, appearing deep in thought before slowly asking, “Have we… met somewhere before?”
My body stiffened, and I shook my head frantically, “No, no! We’ve never met before. How could someone like me know you, haha!”
Seeing the guilty look on the person beside him, Maxwell didn’t ask further. He just silently supported me, while I looked like I had
disconnected from the world.
Maxwell called for a designated driver, but worried that I might not be able to take care of myself if I was unwell, so he went back with me.
I felt a bit embarrassed, thinking it was just a dream, yet I had taken up so much of Maxwell’s time. Besides, Maxwell didn’t seem like a killer.
I scratched my head, “Thanks for today… um, do you want to come up for a bit?”
I just wanted to be polite, not expecting Maxwell to agree.
But Maxwell nodded, “Sure.”
