Chapter 7
After the unpleasant phone call, Lowell didn’t contact me for several days..
I thought maybe he was finally starting to accept reality.
At the supermarket, I was pushing my cart, trying to figure out what snacks to buy, when Kaitlynn’s call suddenly came through
I hesitated for a moment, then answered. “What is it?”
Kaitlynn’s voice was filled with barely contained anger.
“Bessie, you must be feeling pretty smug right now, huh?”
I was confused. “Smug about what?”
On the other end, I heard a cup being smashed on the floor, and Kaitlynn, furious, yelled, “Don’t play dumb! You did this on purpose, didn’t you?!
“You knew today was my birthday, so why did you have to steal Lowell away today?
“You think just because he came to you, it means something? Let me tell you, I can let him come back to me at any time…
She was getting more worked up, and I hung up the phone. “What a lunatic.”
Arguing in a supermarket was just too embarrassing, so I just hung up the phone.
On my way h
home, I couldn’t stop thinking about what Kaitlynn had just said.
Today was her birthday.
However, from her words, I sensed that Lowell planned to follow me today.
Sure enough, when I reached the entrance of my apartment complex, I saw that familiar person.
I stopped in my tracks and turned around to walk away without hesitation.
But just a few steps later, Lowell caught up with me.
He grabbed my wrist, anger flashing in his eyes. “You really don’t want to see me, do you?”
I looked at him, confused.
“Isn’t it obvious?”
