Even if Ethan was reluctant, he had to admit one thing at this moment Sophia, who should have been miserable after leaving him, struggling to survive in the slums, had instead shone like a pearl freed from its dust
With each new person appearing by her side, every single one seemed stronger than Ethan.
In that instant. Ethan’s confidence and pride in front of Sophia crumbled.
His long–held, self–assured belief that Sophia loved him unconditionally began to waver.
“With so many outstanding people around Sophia now, could she still love me as steadfastly as before, chasing after me like she used to? he thought.
Clearly, that was impossible.
A sharp, stabbing pain shot through Ethan’s heart as if a cold, iron hand had torn at his insades, leaving him in agony.
His confidence and pride gradually collapsed, leaving him with an indescribable sense of panic that weighed heavily on his chest, making it hard to breathe.
Ethan couldn’t bear the thought that Sophia might be attracted to someone else, that she might no longer love hum
“Sophia was mine, my exclusive possession. Even if I discarded her first, no one else should be able to take her away, he thought.
“Ethan Ethan?” a voice called out.
Gloria had gone to freshen up and remove her makeup as soon as she returned to the Baker residence.
With a face mask on, she walked out of her room and into the hall, where she saw Ethan sitting on the couch, his face pale and sullen, staring intently at his phone with red–rimmed eyes.
Gloria was startled and quickly moved to his side. “What’s wrong with you? Still thinking about Chloe?”
Ethan didn’t respond.
His entire body was tense, his eyes filled with a menacing glare as he seemed lost in his thoughts.
Gloria furrowed her brows in frustration, “What’s so great about Chloe She grew up in the slums; who knows if she’s even clean or if she’s caught some disease?
“Ethan, with your background and how amazing you are, marrying a socialite would be a piece of cake. Why are you so fixated on Chloe!
“The Baker family is facing problems now and needs the Roscente family’s help. Why would you even consider marrying Chloe? You should just marry Miss Roscente.”
In her mind, in all of Virelia, only the daughter of the wealthiest family, the Roscente family, could possibly match up with Ethan.
Of course, it was only because the Baker family was in crisis that she reluctantly agreed to the idea of her son being with the Roscente daughter.

“Just shut up,” Howard snapped from the side, where he was frantically handling company matters on his phone.

Hearing Gloria’s tone, his temples throbbed. “Do you really think Miss Roscente is just anyone? Do you think the Roscerite family would agree to a marriage alliance just because you want it?”
Gloria pouted, looking at her accomplished son. “Ethan is more than worthy of Miss Roscente.”
Howard let out a cold laugh. “Do you even know who Miss Roscente’s fiancé is?”
He gave Gloria a condescending look. “It’s Tristan, the head of the Yeats family”
Gloria, still sulking after being scolded, froze the moment Tristan was mentioned.
Her mouth moved, but she couldn’t find any words to argue back, and she lowered her head dejectedly.
With a swish, Ethan, still clutching his phone, stood up and stormed out the door.
Gloria was startled and rushed after him. “Ethan, where are you going?”
Without turning his head, Ethan replied, “To drink”
Ignoring Gloria’s calls, he got into his car and drove off.
Gloria only made it to the doorway, and thinking of Ethan’s gloomy expression, she couldn’t help but worry. “Is Chloe really that good?”
“If you truly care about Ethan, you should hold your tongue and stop saying hurtful things. Howard said coldly, giving Gloria a disdainful look before heading to his study.
Howard had married Gloria because of her family background and her perceived stupidity, which he believed would bring great benefits to the Baker Group.
But now it seemed that marrying a fool would eventually bring ruin to the Baker family.
Zach and the others enjoyed their meal immensely.
After all, this was the first time Sophia had brought Tristan
an to meet her group of friends, a momentous occasion.
Moreover, Sophia had now transformed into the daughter of the wealthiest family and had become the owner of the Raffle Hotel.
For the first time in years, she was treating them to such a lavish meal, and everyone’s appetite seemed to grow even more.
They chatted cheerfully with Tristan, fawning over him as if he were Sophia.
The meal didn’t end until three in the afternoon, and even though it wasn’t evening yet, everyone was already drunk and slurring their words, still eager to talk to Sophia and Tristan.
Sophia sighed helplessly at the sight of her friends, who were now sprawled all over the place.
She glanced at Tristan, the only other person still sober in the private room besides herself.
Tristan, as always, exuded an air of noble aloofness, leaning lazily against the back of his chair. His top buttons were undone, and his long, straight legs were stretched out lazily, giving him a relaxed and comfortable demeanor.
He was looking at Sophia with a deep, intense gaze.
After being plied with drinks by Zach and the others, Tristan had consumed quite a bit of alcohol

A faint blush was visible on his skin, and his deep eyes were misty with intoxication, adding to his charming, tipsy allure.
He looked incredibly alluring like a fox enticing its prey.
“Are you still sober?” Sophia asked.
Tristan shifted slightly, adjusting his position. His hazel eyes, now softened with a tipsy glow, were filled with a captivating charm Tm fine,” he replied.
“Then go outside and call a waiter to send these people home one by one.” Sophia instructed directly.
Tristan paused for a moment, then let out a low, lazy chuckle. “Darling. I thought you were actually concerned about me,” he sand, his voice tinged with a hint of disappointment.
His delicate features drooped slightly, and his long eyelashes trembled, giving him a vulnerable, puppy–dog look.
He pushed himself up from the table, then flashed Sophia a breathtaking smile. “As you wish, darling.”
Sophia was momentarily stunned by his ever–present charm.
Tristan walked toward the door. Though his eyes were hazy with drunkenness, his steps were steady
Sophia watched him for a moment before turning her attention back to Sherry. She gently guided Sherry, who was reeking of alcohol and whose pretty, charming face was flushed from the drunkenness, to the other side of the private room’s sofa, helping her lean comfortably against the soft cushions.
As Sophia was about to let go, Sherry grabbed her wrist.
Her face was flushed, her eyes clouded with alcohol, and her words were slurred.
“Sofi, I’m really happy for you,” she said, laughing softly and pressing Sophia’s hand to her warm check, nuzzling it like a cat. “He’s really good to you. I can see how much he loves you. I’m relieved.”
Her speech was becoming more incoherent as she mumbled, her grip on Sophia’s hand weakening.
Sophia gently let her be, her expression softening. She smiled. I really should take a picture of you like this. When you sober up and realize you’re defending Tristan, you’ll probably want to hit yourself.”
Sherry, of course, didn’t hear her. Her breathing grew heavier as she drifted off to sleep.
Eventually, she succumbed to her drunken stupor and fell silent.
Sophia was about to move away when the familiar scent of woodsy cologne, mingled with the faint aroma of alcohol, enveloped her.
warm, his chin
The next moment, she found herself enveloped in a broad, warm embrace. Tristan’s body was unusually w resting on her shoulder.
As he tilted his head, his hot breath brushed against the skin of her neck.
“She’s just speaking the truth. How can that be considered defending me?” he murmured, his deep, husky voice filled with tender affection. His breath tickled Sophia’s ear, making her shiver slightly.
But he hugged her even tighter and rubbed his head against the crook of her neck. “Your best friend praised me. Can’t this earn me some points!”
Soft, short hair brushed against Sophia’s skin from time to time.
“Let go,” she said, trying to wriggle out of his hold.

“No way, Tristan replied, his voice taking on a playful, almost childish tone. “Sofi, not until you give me some points.”
Sophia was taken aback.
The cajoling tone was incredibly captivating, making her heart flutter.
She struggled to maintain her composure and trembled slightly. “Fine. I’ll give you points.”
Tristan, who had taken Sophia’s casual remark to heart, now held onto it dearly.

At that moment, the private room door swung open, and Finn’s voice broke the intimate atmosphere. “Ms. Roscente, I’ve arranged for the hotel’s drivers to safely escort your friends home.”
Finn had been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself in front of Sophia and had seized the chance to handle the
arrangements.
After receiving the instruction, he immediately ran off to make the arrangements.
Once he was done, he walked in, eager to inform her, only to see the couple embracing on the sofa.
The scene was so picturesque, like something out of a movie, that Finn’s voice caught in his throat.
He stood there, stunned, before clearing his throat awkwardly and quickly trying to back out of the room.
