Chapter 139
Ethan’s eyes were still bloodshot, though the haze of alcohol had mostly cleared. He glared at Henry, his gaze sharp and
furious.
Henry, having rescued his phone, took a step back, his voice cool and dismissive. “You’re not even Sophia’s ex. What givest you the right to ask?”
I… Ethan’s face twisted with a pained expression. “She loves me! She chased after me for so long, and now she just stops? What am I, a toy?”
Henry let out a short, mocking laugh, his eyebrow arching. “Oh, so because she loved you, because she ‘chased‘ you, she should remain celibate after you dumped her? Ethan, have some shame.”
Crash!
Ethan grabbed a glass from the table and hurled it at Henry,
The glass shattered on the floor, the sound startling the previously silent hangers–on into breathless attention. Henry glanced down at the shards of glass scattered near his feet, the amusement slowly fading from his face. “Ethan, you really deserve this,” he said coldly, his eyes filled with icy contempt.
“When she was all over you, you found her annoying. You messed with Sophia, humiliated her in every possible way, just to prove what a big shot you are, Mr. Baker.”
“Now, she’s finally gone, just like you wanted. So why are you throwing a tantrum? Don’t you know that belated affection is cheaper than dirt?”
“What? If she actually came back, what about your little fiancée? Would you dump her like you dumped Sophia? And then, would you realize your fiancée is better after all, and dump Sophia again?”
“Ethan, aren’t you just a pathetic piece of work?”
Henry’s words sliced through Ethan’s heart, exposing all his dirty thoughts.
He turned red in the face, reaching for another glass on the table.
But Henry just scoffed. “Go ahead, smash it. Smash it, and if I shut up, will Sophia magically return to you, satisfying your Twisted, perverted desires?”
Ethan’s hand froze.
Henry picked up his jacket from the sofa, shot Ethan a cold sneer, and strode towards the door.
“Ethan, Sophia isn’t yours anymore. Whoever she’s with is none of your business. You don’t have the right to interfere, get
The door slammed shut, the sound reverberating through the room.
The hangers–on in the room, shaken, looked at each other.
Ethan, slumped on the sofa, was breathing heavily, sweat beading on his forehead, his eyes tightly shut.
After a moment of silence, the group approached him.
“Ethan, don’t be mad at Henry. He… he’s just worried about you.”

Chapter 139
“Yeah, yeah. Henry actually tried to talk you out of it many times. He’s just angry… angry that you didn’t listen to him and you’re hurting yourself like this.”
“Ethan, calm down. It’s just a woman, right? And one who was totally devoted to you. If you really want her, just go find her, apologize, and she’ll melt right back into your arms.”
Their incessant chatter made Ethan’s head throb.
He frowned, sweat pouring down his forehead.
Images he’d long forgotten flooded his mind.
The three years Sophia had been at his beck and call, treated like a toy, a dog.
Henry had once said, “She’s a girl who’s been chasing you for so long, ignoring her own pride. Even if you don’t like her, you shouldn’t mess with her like this. She’s not one of those girls you can just buy off.”
Henry had also said, “Ethan, those who carelessly play with others‘ hearts will eventually face the consequences.”
And, “I don’t want you to regret this later, letting these games become a lifelong pain.”
But what had he said back then?
He had mocked Henry for acting like a love guru, confidently declaring that he would never give his heart to anyone, and thus would never be played.
And he would certainly never regret a clingy woman.
But…
Now, he seemed to truly regret
Especially when he heard that man’s voice on the phone, their warm and intimate conversation.
His heart felt like it was being gnawed by thousands of insects, the pain making his entire body convulse.
Andrew… having dinner together.
Was Sophia meeting that man’s family?
After leaving him, was she so eager to find a man and marry herself off?
Was she that desperate for a man?
He recalled Sophia’s cold, emotionless voice on the phone: “An insignificant lunatic.”
Heh.
Alunatic…
Because of that man, he, who had once been so adored by her, was now just an insignificant lunatic in her eyes?
Paint
A burning pain that made his body convulse even more violently.
He could vaguely hear the panicked screams of the hangers–on around him.
The screams made not only his chest hurt, but his entire body ached uncontrollably.

Chapter 139
He was in so much pain that he couldn’t even muster the strength to open his eyes..
“Ethan! Ethan!”
Ethan’s vision grew darker.
Then, he plunged into an endless darkness, the screams fading away completely.
He lost consciousness.
Sophia hung up and blocked the number.
Just as she was about to leave the lounge, a firm grip on her wrist pulled her back into a warm embrace.
Tristan rested his chin on her shoulder, his hot breath stirring the hair at her neck, sending a ticklish shiver down her spin
Sophia tried to pry his hands off, failed, and rolled her eyes. “You were being deliberately provocative while I was on the phone. Still jealous?”
Tristan nuzzled her neck, a low chuckle rumbling in his chest. “Oops, you caught me.”
Sophia jabbed him in the stomach with her elbow. You made it so obvious; it was hard to miss.”
All that affected flirtatiousness was clearly meant to provoke the person on the other end of the line.
She hadn’t hung up immediately, indulging his childish behavior.
Unable to break free, Sophia gave up struggling. “How did you know who I was talking to?”
“I glanced at the caller ID, Tristan hummed.
Sophia couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re supposed to be Virelia’s untouchable god, a sacred being above all this. If anyone say you acting this immature, what would happen to your reputation as the head of the Yeats family?”
Tristan hummed again. “Who needs a reputation when I have a wife?”
Sophia’s ears burned, and she shoved him again with her elbow. “We’re not even engaged yet! Who said I was your wife?” This pushy jerk!
Acting as if it was a done deal.
In reality, he was just a childish, attention–seeking wolf in sheep’s clothing, disguised as a lovesick puppy.
When they emerged from the room, Andrew Yeats’s face was lit up like a Christmas tree, his eyes twinkling as he chuckled.
It was as if they’d been up to no good in the private room.
Sophia’s face flushed even deeper.
Just then, Gary burst in, laden with gift bags. “Tristan, Mrs. Yeats, you just left me to fend for myself?”
He dumped the bags on the floor with a thud, collapsing onto a nearby chair in a show of exhaustion. Andrew, hope you’re doing well. These are gifts from Mrs. Yeats, it nearly killed me…”

He greeted the old man weakly.
But Andrew Yeats ignored him, his expression one of extreme excitement, his gaze fixed on the couple standing by the
Gary’s internal gossip radar went off. He straightened up, his eyes scanning the room like a laser beam, focusing on their intertwined hands and Sophia’s noticeably flushed face.
Their expressions… how to describe them?
Sophia felt like a monkey in a 200,
She shot Tristan a subtle glare, decisively pulled her hand away, and smoothly changed the subject. “Took you long enough to park the car.”
This successfully diverted Gary’s attention. He leaned forward, propping his hands on the table, his face alight with excitement. “On my way up, I saw the best show. Guess who I ran into!”
Sophia glanced at the pile of gift bags, picturing Gary struggling with them while still managing to gather gossip.
A juicy tidbit indeed, if it could make Gary carry so much.
Sophia raised an eyebrow. “Xandra?”
Gary’s eyes widened. “Wow! Mrs. Yeats, are you psychic? How did you know?”
“She was just here.”
Gary’s eyes widened further, a look of understanding dawning on his face. “No wonder! When I saw her, her face… it was like a painter’s palette gone wrong, all sorts of colors, green, purple, white, red. It was terrifying, and so contorted.”
Anyone could see Xandra’s feelings for his brother Tristan,
Gary just felt that this woman was ambitious, and used the kindness she got from the Roscente family to try to take everything, including the engagement with Tristan.
To put it
put it plainly, Xandra was greedy.
She was afraid of losing everything she had and wanted to cling to Tristan to climb the social ladder.
But did she really think Tristan was someone just anyone could latch onto!
He didn’t even need to ask; he could already guess that this woman had come to see Andrew Yeats, hoping he would step in and solidify her engagement with Tristan.
