Chapter 39
Chapter 39
Sophia decisively flipped her cell phone screen down on the
table, acted like nothing was wrong, and dug into her meal.
After eating and drinking her fill, she slowly glance back at her phone. She reached out and picked it up. The screen was dark and Tristan didn’t push her to reply to his message.
Sophia’s fingers curled in toward his palm as she felt oddly shy for some reason. Since they were friends, there was no big deal in casually replying to a WhatsApp message. Every time something came up with Tristan, she turned into a different person altogether.
She gave herself a little pat on the face and opened the chat with Tristan to reply. I was eating. When are you free? I’m going to check on your grandfather.]
Tristan approached her in the beginning in the hope that she would help with his grandfather’s illness. He helped her bear up Ethan twice last night. Now that they were good friends, it was natural to prioritize his affairs.
Tristan had been waiting, and as soon as she sent the message, he replied right away.
[Tomorrow, then. I’ll come and get you]
Sophia almost typed back “Okay“, but then remembered how her grandpa reacted when he mentioned Gary earlier. Plus her grandpa kept asking about what was going on between her and Cary.
She hesitated because it seemed like her grandpa loved speculating about those romantic things between guys and girls. If he met Tristan, he’d definitely start questioning their relationship.
[No need. Just send me the location. I’ll head there myself tomorrow moming]
Tristan in a black suit and white shirt stood in front of the floor–to–ceiling window, looking at the message with his eyes downcast.
A brilliant golden light was projected into the window, adding a few points of golden light and shadow to his cold face, like an elf under the bathing

He looked at Sophia’s rejection message, his thin lips slightly curled, the bottom of his eyes diffusing an slight smile. She’s shy,’ he thought. Then his long fingers tapped lightly on the screen and replied. [Well.]
The next day. Sophia got up early. After breakfast with Edward, she went back to her room. She took out several pills with different effects she had made from herbs and put them in a bottle, which she put in her bag.
She drove to the State Hospital based on the location sent by Tristan.
Just as she was walking into the hospital lobby, she heard someone exclaim in surprise, “Hey, isn’t that Sophia? You’re here too!“.
“Wow, you really are Ethan’s little shadow. How come you always know where he is?”
“Everything’s good if she’s here. Whenever Ethan ends up in the hospital, as long as Sophia is around, he recovers super fast!”
“Sophia, here! Ethan’s room is this way.”
The loud chatter made Sophia frown. Turning to see what was going on, she saw the usual crowd of Ethan’s friends gathered around her.
Those people had teasing smiles on their faces, and each of them thought it was totally normal to see Sophia there.
They had already surrounded her, just like they had done for the past three years. They laughed, “I knew you couldn’t let go of Ethan. You knew he was hospitalized and you couldn’t wait to get here. He’d be so happy to see you!”
“Didn’t you used to make medicine soup for Ethan to help him feel bettert Why no food today? Didn’t have time to get anything?”
“He loves your soup. Even if you’re in a hurry, you have to cook it for him.”
The live of them kept chattering around Sophia, pointing fingers and judging her without any respect.
Sophia felt her head buzzing with annoyance. “Get out of the way. Her voice was clear and cold, carrying an unexpected authority. The frore for a moment.

Before, Sophia had always followed Ethan around and had been quite obedient. This was the first time they had seen such a cold look on her face she really looked annoyed.

Especially when her striking eyes landed on them with disdain; it felt like she was a queen looking down on them. They were all stunned and their expressions changed. Then they exchanged glances with each other.
Because Sophia’s image of a fawning admirer was deeply rooted in their hearts during the past three years, and in the face of such an attitude from Sophia, they showed an expression of watching a good show.
“Sophia, I’m not trying to pick on you, but if you want to stay with Ethan again, you really need to find out what he likes, Just look at your face- you’re obviously a stunning beauty! Why don’t you know how to make the most of it”
Someone even joked. “Uley, don’t you want to change your style and try something new to catch his eye? Let me tell you, Ethan likes girls like Ms. Chloe, and the way you look now just doesn’t cut it.“With that, they barst into laughter.
Sophia’s expression turned dark; annoyance was clear in her eyes. “You have spent so much time with dogs that all you can do now is bark! Can’t any of you speak human language?”
Their laughter died down instantly. Is Sophia out of her mind? Did she call Ethan a dog and insult them for barking? Aren’t she afraid they’ll tell Ethan?
I lost.” Sophia shot them a disgusted look. The faces around her grew darker as they stared back at her, their expressions mixed with curiosity
and suspicion. But not one of them moved.
Sophia was really annoyed, clenching her fists and wondering if she could hit someone in the hospital without being thrown out by the security guards.
Out of nowhere, a familiar voice rang out, “Allex, Jake, you are here!” Chloe pushed Ethan towards them with a gentle smile on her face. “I just brought Ethan for a checkup. If I hadn’t bumped into you, you wouldn’t have seen us when you went to the ward”
The group looked at Chloe, then at Sophia. They narrowed their eyes slightly, raising their voices as they called out, “Sister–in–law, we came to see Ethan. Look who else we found.”
As they spoke, they stepped aside to reveal Sophia in the center. Ethan sat in his wheelchair, calm but cold. When his gaze landed on Sophia, his eyes widened in shock as he locked onto her figure.
“She’s here! She really can’t let go of me! He screamed inwardly in excitement
