Chapter 54
When a person was pushed to the peak of anger, they could either lose their rationality, or they might suddenly calm down.
Xenia was the latter at the moment.
The malice in her eyes was completely undisguised as if she had grasped onto a fatal point against Sophia. She revealed a confident smile as she said, “Sophia, it’s still not too late for you to beg me. Otherwise, once I call the security, you’ll be arrested by the state as a spy.”
By then, a permanent stain would cast over Sophia’s life.
To Xenia, that was the consequence of Sophia harming her.

‘How could a country girl, a dropout who didn’t even finish high school, have the right to behave confidently and proudly before me, a brilliant doctor with a PhD?‘ Xenia thought.
“What are you proud of, Sophia?” Xenia wished she could rip apart Sophia’s façade. “Do you think by deceiving Mr. Yeats, you can act arrogantly in Professor Williams‘ research institute? Even if Mr. Yeats himself came, he wouldn’t have the right to sit in this chair! And besides…”
Xenia’s eyes were cold, and her hand resting on the table clenched into a fist, one finger at a time. “You think you can keep up the pretense for long? I’ll tell Professor Williams everything, and he’ll expose your true colors in front of Mr. Yeats.
Do you think Mr. Yeats will let you go then?”
Xenia seemed to have thought of the scene where Sophia was tormented by Tristan, and a grim smile spread across her lips.
“Heh.”
Sophia let out a sneer, tilting her head slightly, appearing even more languid.
She looked up, ridicule glinting in her eyes. “Instead of worrying about whether I have the right to sit here, or how Tristan will treat me, Dr. Gomez, you might want to think about how to explain your… dismissal to your leader. After all, you’ve ruined his reputation.”
As she spoke, her exquisite brow arched slightly, and the curve of her crimson lips added a sharper edge to her sarcasm. “That fake crying act from earlier probably… won’t work in front of Professor Williams.”
Chapter 54
Xenia remembered her cry when she rushed into the office, which Sophia, being the person involved, heard clearly. Her face flushed red with embarrassment.
Especially when Sophia mentioned the word “dismissal“, she sounded high and mighty.
Xenia’s eyes suddenly turned red.
She suddenly leaped across the desk, raised her hand, and swung it fiercely toward Sophia’s face-
“What are you doing, Xenia?”
Owen’s panicked voice could be heard outside the office.
He briskly pushed open the half–closed office door and rushed in, moving with a speed uncharacteristic of a sixty–five–year- old man.
Naturally, his speed couldn’t match Sophia’s.
The instant Xenia’s slap was about to land on Sophia’s face, Sophia raised her hand and grasped Xenia’s wrist.
With a crack, Xenia’s other uninjured hand was fractured.
“Ah!”
Xenia screamed in agony, and the intense pain made her face twisted.
Sophia slowly stood up.
Her other hand pressed on Xenia’s shoulder. With a bit of force, she pressed Xenia straight against the wall.
There was a loud “bang“.
Xenia’s back slammed hard against the wall, and the intense pain was even worse than when her wrist was fractured.
She felt as if all the bones in her back were shattered by the impact.
Her face twisted in immense pain, and she tried desperately to break free from Sophia’s restraint.
However, she couldn’t move an inch.
“Professor Williams…”
When Xenia heard that familiar voice, her ferocious expression changed slightly, and she looked at Owen who rushed in with a pleading look.
‘Professor Williams comes just in time!
This bitch sneaked into his office and hit me right in front of him!
I swear to have Sophia arrested by the state as a spy!‘ Xenia thought.
But as soon as she turned her head, Sophia’s slender fingers gripped her chin. Her head was forcibly twisted back, meeting Sophia’s cold and indifferent eyes.

Xenia’s expression kept changing, anger surging in her blood red eyes.
Sophia scoffed. “Graduated from a prestigious foreign university PhD? Genius? Huh?”
Her words were chilling, laced with sarcasm, making Xenia’s face flush with embarrassment.
“Like I said, you really are stupid.
Where do you think you are? This is an important national research institute with so many guards and checkpoints. Is it a place anyone can just walk into?”
Xenia’s pupils contracted, her lashes trembled violently, and a hint of fear appeared in her eyes.
Indeed, it was a national pharmaceutical research institute, not a place anyone could just break into.
Xenia’s team was made up of world–renowned elites, but only she, as the deputy team leader, was able to enter the institute due to her close relationship with Professor Williams.
And even for her, she had to go through several checks.
Besides… she could only stay inside the institute for half an hour each time.
She should have realized it earlier.
