Lovestory5–Chapter 1
The day before we were supposed to get our marriage license, my fiancé, who I grew up with, suddenly announced his eternal love for my best friend, Lexie Shannon.
Under the double betrayal, everyone waited to see the joke, but at this moment, Alberto Mendoza, the famous CEO in Springmage, descended from the sky and crazily pursued me.
So I quit my job, devoted myself to family life; and became the envy of everyone as Mrs. Mendoza.
At a business cocktail party, I went to pick up the intoxicated Alberto and unintentionally overheard
his sister sympathetically mentioning me. “Alberto, is the shopping mall you built for Lexie about to open? You have put in so much effort to pave the way for Lexie, even at the expense of your own
marriage.”
Alberto said bitterly, “If Lexie is happy, I will clear all obstacles for her.”
The truth is, all the love and affection could be faked.
I was also a part of their play.
So I decided to let go and leave.
I carried the hangover soup and hurriedly arrived at the party venue of Rose Hotel with Bryce.
The waiter said Alberto was resting in the VVIP private room.
Before pushing the door open, a strong scent of cigars mixed with alcohol wafted out.
I was choked and almost coughed..
I heard a familiar female voice through the door. “Alberto, is the shopping mall you built for Lexie
about to open? Over the years, you have put in so much effort to pave the way for Lexie, even manipulating our marriage. How long do you plan to deceive Frida?”
I was confused, just as I was about to push the door open, I heard Alberto Mendoza’s voice, witha hint of bitterness and a strong sense of drunkenness, saying, “Sis, as long as Lexie is happy, I don’t mind pretending for the rest of my life.”
“I want to clear all obstacles for Lexie.”
My hand froze in mid–air, just like I was struck by lightning. The secretary beside me looked at me with a knowing yet somewhat sympathetic gaze, nervously watching my reaction.
Sp everyone knew everything, except me who was kept in the dark.
The once–melodious cello music in the hotel now sounded jarring and unbearable to my ears.
“Frida Hensley loves you so much. What if one day she finds out the truth?”
“She will never know.” In the warm indoors, I unexpectedly shivered.
I whispered to Bryce, “Mr. Mendoza drank too much alcohol today. Take him out later, I’ll wait for
you in the car.”
“Remember, don’t say what shouldn’t be said.”
I sat in the car, gazing blankly at the starry on the interior top.
The bits and pieces of these years flash through my mind like frames of a slideshow.
Back then, my childhood fiancé Layton McBride called off the wedding, causing quite a stir.
Everyone was waiting to see me make a fool of myself when Alberto suddenly approached me and confessed that he had loved me for a long time.
Caught in the whirlwind of public scrutiny, I chose to marry him, creating a widely admired story in Springmage.
Looking back, this marriage built on lies turned out to be nothing more than a joke.
