Chapter 4
Hadn’t had time to react when Lexie suddenly collapsed, lying on the ground in pain and groaning.
There was a burst of exclamations in the crowd.
“Quick! Call 911!”
“Someone fell down! Quickly shout for help!”
Everyone gathered around, and the people present looked at me with disgust in their eyes.
Amidst the hustle and bustle, I caught sight of a figure that was incredibly familiar: “Lexie!”
He was my husband, with whom I shared the same bed for a whole three years.
Alberto’s face was full of nervousness as he quickly came down from the stage.
He p
pushed me aside and squatted in front of Lexie, cradling her in his arms.
Just then, the doctor arrived. Alberto carefully placed Lexie on the stretcher.
He stood beside me, suppressing the anger on his face, and said to me, “Even if you dislike her, you shouldn’t hurt her. Do you know that Lexie just got pregnant not long ago?”
I looked at him as if I had never known him before.
My voice trembled slightly as I asked, “Why? Why does the design of this shopping mall look so similar to the design in my computer?”
Alberto frowned, “How would I know? What design plans? Aren’t architectural designs made using fixed software, like, normally?”
I couldn’t help but force a bitter smile, the computer at home, besides the nanny, only he could touch.
Seemingly sensing my displeasure and suspicion, he impatiently tugged at his tie and changed the subject: “I was just too hasty earlier. I’m just worried about how to explain things to the McBride family and the Shannon family.”
“After all, Lexie is still our chief designer, and I don’t want you to have any trouble.”
Seeing that I didn’t look well, Alberto softened his tone and tightly held my hand. “I’ll have Bryce arrange a restaurant for you, go and rest over there first. Once I handle things here, I’ll come over and have lunch with you.”
“I will take care of the Shannon family and the McBride family.”
I nodded.
even admired Alberto a little. He could endure humiliation and carry heavy burdens to ensure Lexie’s peace and happiness..
When I walked into the top floor of River Hotel, which had the widest view, the floor was already
covered with flowers.
Alberto sent me a few messages.saying, “The McBride family said that Lexie was physically.
unharmed, just a little scared.”
“The Shannon family also said that they wouldn’t hold you accountable for this. Frida, it’s all right
now.”
I sat by the window, quietly watching the birds flying past outside, and replied to him, “Hmm, that’s good.”
Just as I was about to put down my phone, Lexie sent me a bunch of photos and a string of messages.
“Oh no, Frida, I’m sorry, I sent it to the wrong person! It’s too late to recall it now!”
I enlarged the photo and her dazzling smile pierced my eyes. In the corner, that hand, wearing the familiar Patek Philippe watch, was the birthday gift I had given to Alberto.
I sat on the sofa, waited for a long, long time, and waited until the sun set.
Alberto did not come.
I called Alberto and the call was connected instantly.
“Hello, how are you?” was an unfamiliar voice.
The person across spoke in a very respectful tone, “I am a salesperson from Lexie Jewelry. I apologize, but Mr. Mendoza has booked the venue and is accompanying his partner to buy jewelry.”
“Excuse me, who is calling? May I ask what it’s regarding for Mr. Mendoza? I will pass on the message to him shortly.”
I hung up the phone and headed to the airport. On the other side, Alberto raised his wrist and glanced at his watch, saying to Lexie, “Lexie, have you chosen the jewelry?”
“I’m sorry about what happened this time. You can choose any jewelry as a gesture of apology from
Frida. I’ll leave now.”
Lexie reached out and hooked her arm around Alberto’s: “Alberto, I haven’t made up my mind yet. Can you help me decide if this sapphire looks better or the emerald?”
Suddenly, Bryce rushed into the store, sweating profusely.
