Chapter 4
The meal was tasteless, and everyone at the table was silent because of what had just happened.
After finishing the meal, it suddenly started raining.
Braydon cautiously approached again.
“Annie, it’s not safe for Lilian, a girl, to go home alone. You stay here with Mom for a while, I’ll take * her back and then come to pick you up.”
I nodded.
Braydon looked at me as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he just squeezed my hand and let go, escorting Lilian away.
I watched their receding figures and opened my phone to call a Didi for myself. Ignoring Kenley’s plea, I took a taxi home alone.
The rain poured down on me, and I think I must have looked very disheveled now.
Braydon rushed back in the rain and embraced me tightly.
“I’m sorry, Annie, I made you suffer.”
“It’s just that Lilian still has children, after all, I brought her here, so I have to settle her down first.”
“Why weren’t you waiting at mom’s house?”
In the end, there was even a hint of complaint in his tone.
“Could only you take her there?”
I suddenly asked sincerely.
“What?”
“Today, both you and Derrick came by car. Is it only you who can drive Lilian back?”
Braydon’s gaze shifted from confusion to embarrassment, and he pursed his lips.
I interrupted him.
“It was you who wanted to give.”
He suddenly felt a little downcast, and he sighed.
Annie, were you jealous? I only treated Lilian as a sister.”
“She was alone, and being divorced with a child, there were always many difficulties. I cherished
the bond we grew up with together, so I helped as much as I could.”
“Even quit my job for her and start a business together?”
I pushed him away, unwilling to linger in this warmth that did not belong to me anymore.
Braydon paused for a moment and continued explaining.
“You misunderstood, the company was jointly established after discussion, we just wanted to seize this opportunity.”
He impatiently adjusted his tie and stared at me with those still affectionate eyes.
“Don’t overthink it, we’re about to become mothers soon, why are you still so jealous? Be careful not to give birth to a little vinegar jar, hmm?”
But our child is already gone.
I was just about to speak when Braydon’s phone rang-
The moment the call was connected, a childish voice with a milk–like tone came through.
“Braydon, why haven’t you come to see me yet? Baby misses you.
He looked at me, panic evident in his eyes, and quickly covered the receiver with his hand as he
walked toward the bedroom.
After a while, he changed his clothes and got ready to go out.
“Sorry, Annie. Lilian said the child was sick and wanted to see me. I…”
I shook my
head indifferently.
“I was fine, you can go.”
Braydon planted a kiss on my face.
“After finishing the business of starting a company, I no longer contacted her individually. I had more time to spend with you and the baby.”
As soon as he left, the news of Derrick and the other two friends came in the next second.
“Annie, something happened over at Lilian’s place. Can you ask Braydon to come over?”
I did not reply to their messages and discussed the details of going to the overseas branch with the supervisor.
o the Timeline, Lilian updated a status.
“The two most important men in my life.”
