Chapter 17
Cindy, you stay with the kids for a while, we will be able to eat soon,” Colt said cheerfully. He had seen this scene countless times in his dreams and it had finally come true.
Emilie happily unwrapped the gift, and there was everything.
Dolls, picture books, Lego, electronic pets….
Cindy saw it with her own eyes and felt sour in her heart.
Why do we only realize the importance of something after losing it?
“It was time to eat.”
Colt finished the last dish on the stove took off his apron, and personally came over to call Emilie.
Emilie was sweating profusely, with colorful hands. He took her to wash her hands first, personally dried them for her, and then led her back to the dining table.
“I was such an inadequate husband and father, I didn’t know what you all liked to eat, so I just made something random,” Colt regretted, cautiously looking at Cindy.
He made sweet and sour pork, chicken cutlets, stir–fried lettuce, and also stewed fish soup.
Cindy didn’t know how to cook.
It seems that Hazel taught him very well.
“Taste it, just learned, don’t know if it’s delicious or not.” Colt served Cindy a bowl of fish soup and added a piece of pork tenderloin to Emilie’s plate.
Cindy’s gaze was heavy, and her face was expressionless.
“Mom was allergic to seafood.” Emilie moved the fish soup away and served Cindy a piece of
chicken cutlet.
Colt’s face turned pale, his hands trembled so much that he couldn’t hold the fork, “I’m sorry,
didn’t know.”
“I don’t care,” Cindy said lightly. She had no appetite and didn’t want to eat a single bite..
Emilie ate quickly and finished a full plate.
Colt kept staring at them, occasionally serving food to Emilie.
“Cindy, don’t you really eat?”
wasn’t hungry,” Cindy’s indifferent attitude pained him.
“Wait until you’re hungry, and then I’ll cook for you,” Colt murmured, and he picked up another

piece of meat for Emilie.
Emilie couldn’t eat anymore, she wiped her mouth and ran to open

presents.
Cindy politely helped to clean up the dishes, while Colt followed her, wanting to speak up several
times.
It was not until Cindy finished washing the dishes that he gathered up the courage.
“Cindy, give me another chance, please. I loved you, it was me who didn’t see my own heart clearly, I shouldn’t have hurt you.”
He blocked Cindy’s way, his gaze intense. “Cindy, give me a chance to pursue you again.”

“Why? I was sincere,” Colt exclaimed, grabbing her arm. Seeing her frown, he quickly let go of her hand. “I’m sorry, I hurt you.‘
“Because people’s hearts can grow cold, I am not Emilie. She has always longed for your fatherly love, and as long as you love her, she will love you even more.” Cindy looked at the happy Emilie in the living room, feeling a hint of relief, but then her eyes turned cold. “I have long given up on you.”
“If you truly felt guilty and genuinely want to make amends, then continue treating Emilie well.”
Cindy walked past her and left the kitchen.
Colt stood still, closed his eyes to hold back the tears that were about to fall.
“Emilie, when are we going back?” Cindy rubbed her tired

Upon hearing this, Emilie picked up a purple doll and looked at Colt, saying, “Uncle, can I take this with me? I really like this doll.”
Her tone remained cautious.
Colt took a deep breath, suppressed the bitterness in his heart, and walked out of the kitchen.
Emilie likes it, take it all. These are all for Emilie.”
“Thank you, uncle.”
“Emilie, could you call me dad?”
