Chapter 3
Ireturned home and found Geovanni and Warren already at home, with Marilyn by their side. They were sitting at the dining table, with a spread of delicious food in front of them.
When I stepped into the house, Geovanni was peeling shrimp for Marilyn, and Warren was also eager to compete with him in peeling shrimp. Marilyn’s bowl was filled with the shrimp they had peeled.
I couldn’t help but laugh coldly.
When they saw me, the smiles on their faces instantly disappeared, and the atmosphere became somewhat solemn, as if I were an unwelcome guest.
Geovanni frowned and asked me displeasedly, “How did you come back?”
I listened to his questioning tone and couldn’t help but laugh.
I ignored him and instead changed my shoes, walked up the stairs, and then looked down at them from above, saying, “This is my home, why can’t I come back?”
Marilyn expressed her unease to me, saying, “Mrs. Duncan, Mr. Duncan, and Warren were just concerned about my pregnancy and wanted to take care of me, without any other intentions.”
I looked at Marilyn, to be honest, I didn’t dislike Marilyn. On the contrary, I have to thank her for letting me know what kind of men I deeply loved.
Marilyn was Geovanni’s first love. When they were in college, they were considered the school’s. golden couple. I had never seen Geovanni so passionately in love with someone before, as if he wanted to give the whole world to Marilyn.
But Marilyn’s family was not well–off. In the year nearing graduation, the Duncan family faced. setbacks in their business. To overcome this difficult situation, Winston Duncan brought Geovanni to my house, hoping for a marriage alliance with the Stanley family.
The Stanley family’s business and politics alliance is something that the Duncan family couldn‘ achieve. However, when my dad was young, he was saved by Winston’s life. In addition, I fell inlove. with Geovanni at first sight when I just returned to the country. So, this marriage was settled.
Looking
back on all the years I spent with Geovanni, I was completely enchanted by him. I was wholeheartedly devoted to him, even though he often treated me with indifference and even though he still had contact with Marilyn. Marilyn was always there for him whenever she needed. something… but none of these things mattered to me.
As long as I could be by his side, I always thought that if I could be a little better to him, I could replace Marilyn in his heart.
So when I was sick, he accompanied Marilyn, who had insomnia, to watch the sea. He was never
there for my prenatal check–ups because Marilyn always had these little things
that needed his help. Even when I gave birth to Warren, Marilyn had a nightmare, and he stayed by her side.
Looking back now, I was really foolish.
I actually thought that I could replace Marilyn’s position. Geovanni was right, I really couldn’t see
my own status.
What saddens me the most is that my child… actually chose Marilyn.
My heart died instantly when he uttered those words, “I want Marilyn to be my new mom.”
