⚫ Chapter 8
Tessa did not die, but the child fell and broke a leg.
When I went to the hospital to see her, she wasn’t feeling well. She seemed a bit out of sorts, both
crying and laughing.
As soon as she saw me, she exclaimed like a fighting cock, “Noemi, you still lost to me. In a life–or–death moment, Antoine chose me.”
After a while, she went crazy and grabbed her hair, crying out, “Antoine did it on purpose! He knew all along that Joe would push the person he cared about downstairs, so he pretended to care about me and used me as a shield for you! Why would he do this to me?”
Finally, she tearfully pleaded with me, “It’s been a week, and he hasn’t come to see me once. Noemi, can you please help me beg him to come and see me?”
I felt a sense of melancholy.
If it weren’t for falling in love with Antoine, with her looks and scheming, I would probably have had a good life.
I went outside the corridor to call Antoine.
The call was answered quickly over there, “What’s up?”
I took a deep breath and said, “Tessa wants to see you. Her leg was broken, and the child…”
He interrupted before I could finish my sentence, impatiently saying, “Why do you care if she’s dead or alive? As long as you’re alive, isn’t that enough?”
Such a casual attitude, as if Tessa was an insignificant ant.
“Antoine, you were so scary.”
He sneered lightly and said, “If you know, don’t provoke me.
That night, I had not been asleep for long when someone embraced me from behind.
The familiar scent lingered at the tip of my nose as I half–dreamt and half–awoke, grabbing Antoine’s mischievous hand.
He turned his body angrily, and I instantly lost my sleepiness. “Let go of me–”
“What kind of attitude are you throwing again?” he gripped my chin, his voice cold. “Is it because I’ve been treating you too well these past few days, that you think you can step on my toes?”
nce the day I was rescued, Antoine rarely troubled me anymore, but instead showed me a bit of kindness and friendliness.

I slapped his hand away, sat up against the headboard, and sarcastically said, “You were being nice to me? Is it the kind of ‘nice‘ that left me disabled?”
His deep pupils seemed to sweep through a storm, for a moment, I thought he would slap me again.
And he simply lit a cigarette with a solemn face.
After a while, he said hoarsely, “Noemi, you can’t blame me.”
The last time I saw Kiley, she was covered in bruises, those beasts… they were nothing but animals.
I cried a lot, she was so hurt, so sad, and she told me, “Don’t be afraid, Antoine. It’s not that hurt.”
All of these are thanks to your father. If it weren’t for him, Kiley would have been married and had children by now, with a loving husband and a pair of adorable children.
My nose tingled with bitterness, “I know my dad wronged Kiley, but he has already passed away.”
“I have been tormented by you for so long, consider it as repaying his debt. If you feel it’s still not enough, just shoot me!”
He pressed the cigarette butt into the ashtray, reached out, and grabbed my waist, pulling me closer. “Noemi, I wanted you to stay alive.”
I laughed at myself and said, “Yes, I was only alive so that you could continue tormenting me.”
His body suddenly stiffened, and the fingers that were gripping my waist tightened slightly. “Even” if we torment each other for a lifetime, you still have to live well.”
So, Tessa was right about one thing, Antoine did deliberately mislead Joe that day, while secretly getting Zion and Bryson to save me.
I can confirm that he had no feelings for Tessa. Previously, he was just using her to provoke me. Now that she is no longer useful, he kicked her away.
As for whether he was reluctant to see me die or just wanted to keep tormenting me, I no longer. want to speculate on the reasons.
