Chapter 3
Standing in front of the suitcase, I reached out and picked up a few pieces of clothing, glancing at them with a disdainful curve of my lips.
Then, he casually threw his clothes on the ground and reached out to light a cigarette for himself.
He held the lighter in his hand. “Holding a bunch of garbage as treasure? What are you pretending to be pitiful for? Did I not give you food or clothes?”
“You clearly knew that the wedding was fake, so why are you making a fuss now? Is a fake wedding more important than a person’s life?”
“You said you would fix it, and you haven’t finished yet, right? Do you like this pile of rags? Fine
hen!”
Before I could react, he lit the lighter and suddenly let go of it.
The flame ignited instantly on my mother’s keepsake.
I immediately roared out, “Don’t!” and tried to rush forward, but my neck was tightly gripped by
Leonel, preventing me from moving forward.
The usually gentle Megan has gone mad at the moment.
His eyes turned red, and he opened his mouth wide, biting down hard on Leonel’s hand.
Taking advantage of the moment when Leonel let go, she suddenly turned around and slapped him
hard across the face.
Everyone was stunned in place in an instant.
Julianna quickly placed the thermos on the table and rushed forward to embrace Megan.
“Don’t worry, Leonel had no ill intentions, he just wanted to resolve the issues between you two!
Megan, unaware of where she found the strength, directly broke free from her control and grabbed
her hair.
Julianna was pushed to the ground and left to be ridden by Megan, who wrestled with her.
The sound of miserable crying echoed in the room.
Leonel had me under his control, and I could only keep calling him brother incessantly.
Felix, with anger in his eyes, immediately stepped forward and forcefully grabbed Megan’s hair, pulling her off of Julianna.
She forcefully banged her head against the wall.

After three times, blood gushed out from Megan’s forehead.
I screamed in desperation, my voice trembling.
But I could only watch helplessly as Megan lost her strength to struggle.
In a matter of minutes, the remnants of my mother were reduced to ashes in the flames, leaving indelible traces of black smoke on the ground.
I was overwhelmed by an unprecedented sense of powerlessness and frustration.
I opened my mouth but couldn’t make a sound.
Tears surged out of my eyes, and my gaze fell upon the black ashes on the ground, while my broken heart turned to ashes as well.
I should have been aware of his proposal for a secret marriage as early as three years ago.
Megan and I were just pawns he used in his household. The only person they truly cared about was
always Julianna.
Unfortunately, I understood too late.
Felix wiped the back of his hand with toilet paper, disgusted.
Then, I went to comfort Julianna.
She sobbed with a sense of grievance for a while, and finally Leonel released his hand that was
gripping my neck.
But it wasn’t that I was soft–hearted, but rather busy handing tissues to Julianna. I watched Felix
and Leonel surround her, their eyes filled with worry and compassion.
Julianna gradually stopped crying as she heard their soothing voices.
In an instant, I felt incredibly foolish for the past three years.
I lifted my foot and walked towards Megan, who was lying on the ground, with the sole intention of
taking her away from this place.
But Julianna still wouldn’t let us go.
Although she was the one who had won, she walked up to us with a thermos in her hand, feeling
wronged, just as I had helped Megan up.
“Meredith, I’m sorry… truly sorry. I didn’t expect it to turn out this way. I know you dislike me, but this is a small gesture I wanted to give to Auntie. I hope you can accept it on her behalf…”

I slowly lowered my head, looking at the culprit that caused my mother’s death without closure.
