A melody comes to an end, and I gently massage my temples.
“It’s so noisy. What are you all doing, yelling and shouting in my
mansion?”
“Didn’t I just give you a million dollars? Why are you still hanging around my house? You’re really taking advantage of my kindness.”
My father–in–law tremblingly picks up the bank card I threw on the ground.
“Bram, there’s only a million in this card. Can you lend me the remaining four million?”
“Our family just can’t come up with that much money…”
The housekeepers cleaning around us all cast contemptuous
glances my way.
Just then, a large group of police officers suddenly burst in through
the door.
Officer Hudson, who’s leading them, has a very serious expression.
“The police are currently unable to locate the kidnappers. We recommend preparing the ransom to avoid further harm to the
victim.”
Kellan’s face immediately darkens upon hearing this.
“Hey Shen, did you hear what Officer Hudson just said? Get the ransom ready now!”
I slowly raise my head, scanning everyone present, then calmly

“I’m sorry, but it’s the weekend.”
“The company’s finance department isn’t working.”
As soon as I finish speaking, my mother–in–law faints on the spot.
“Bram, how can you be so heartless?” My father–in–law instantly broke into tears, collapsing onto the ground.
“Xanthe has been by your side through thick and thin, helping you grow from a small company to a Fortune 500 enterprise, and never once did she complain.”

“Don’t you remember? When you two got married, your company was just starting out. We didn’t ask for a single penny as a dowry, and even bought you a car and a house. We never looked down on
you.”
“Now Xanthe’s been kidnapped, and you won’t even pay the five million dollar ransom. You… how can you even call yourself
human?”
His father–in–law’s tone was a mix of grief and anger, every word
cutting deep.
By the end, even the police officers standing nearby couldn’t hold back their tears, and they all stepped forward to try and persuade

“If Xanthe comes back safe and sound, I’ll have her sign over all her company shares to you. How’s that?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, my eyes lit up with interest. my mind racing with possibilities.
However, Kellan, standing nearby, seemed less than pleased.
“Dad, Xanthe’s shares are worth hundreds of millions. How can you
just-”
“Shut your mouth!”

After snapping at Kellan, my father–in–law grabbed my thigh and continued his desperate plea.
“I, Garrison, swear to God, the moment Xanthe is safe, I’ll make her transfer all her shares to you. We won’t keep a single cent!”
I stared intently at the man before me, barely in his fifties, as I began to calculate in my head. In the early days of the startup. I gave Xanthe twenty percent of the original shares, which, combined with the thirty percent I currently hold, adds up to fifty
percent.
As long as I can get my hands on Xanthe’s shares, the company will be under my sole control from now on.
This deal seems pretty worthwhile.
