9 Chapter 9
Stepping out of the study, I walked slowly towards Kellan, looking down at him imperiously.
“Kellan, I’ve paid the money for their family.”
Hearing my words, Garrison instantly shot me a grateful look.
“However…” I suddenly changed my tone, drawing out the word.
“I have one condition.”
Kellan was pinned to the couch, unable to move at all.
“Bram, I never thought you’d be such a hopeless romantic,” he sneered with a contemptuous laugh.
“What’s your condition? Go ahead, say i
it.”
I pointed to the phone on the table and said, “Call your accomplice. Let us hear Xanthe’s voice.”
He probably didn’t expect me to make such a simple request,
agreeing without a second thought.
“Fine, fine. Make the call,” he said, likely thinking I was still worried about Xanthe’s safety, and taunted,
“Don’t worry, your darling is fine. She’s just temporarily unconscious, that’s all.”
With that, in front of everyone, he dialed the kidnapper’s number. “Hey, it’s Kellan. Wake up that woman and let her say something.” After a moment, Xanthe’s voice could be heard on the other end of

the line. Though her voice sounded weak, Xanthe’s tone made it
clear she was still safe.
“Kellan, you liar! You promised to let me go once you got the money, but you actually kidnapped me!”
Kellan shot back just as harshly.
“Shut up. You really think I liked you? If you weren’t loaded, I wouldn’t have given you the time of day.”
“Kellan, you son of a bitch, go to hell…”
I rubbed my ears, not bothering to listen to their bickering anymore, and spoke into the phone.
“Let her go.”
“Yes, Mr. Shaw.”
The kidnapper’s words came through the phone for everyone to
hear.
Everyone looked at me in disbelief.
Kellan froze for a few seconds before he started struggling frantically.
“What the hell is going on? I’m Kellan! I say don’t release her!”
Worried Kellan couldn’t hear clearly, I held the phone up to his ear.
“Tell him loudly, who do you take orders from?”
“We only listen to Mr. Shaw.”
“Release her.”
With that, I didn’t waste any more words on Kellan. I casually

handed the phone to Officer Hudson.“Xanthe will be returned
within half an hour, Officer Hudson. The rest is up to you.”
“What’s going on here?”
Officer Hudson’s face was full of confusion.
I took a USB drive out of my pocket and handed it over.
“Actually, I knew about Kellan’s plan all along. To be safe, I contacted the kidnappers in advance, offering double the price to work for me instead.”
“This USB drive contains the entire process of how Kellan and Xanthe plotted against me. I believe the police will give me a satisfactory response.”
Kellan’s face was filled with disbelief.
“How is this possible? How could you possibly know my plan? I didn’t tell anyone.”
I let out a cold laugh.
“What if I told you I guessed it? Would you believe me?”
Even Officer Hudson was bewildered, his face full of curiosity.
“Mr. Shaw, how did you know he would actually kidnap Xanthe?” I pointed to the box sitting nearby.
“Do you remember that pregnancy test Kellan took out of the box earlier?”
“Yes, what about it?”
Officer Hudson immediately ordered someone to bring over the

pregnancy test. I opened the flashlight on my phone and shone it from top to bottom.
“This is…”
Officer Hudson read aloud as he followed where I was illuminating.
“Plans have changed.”
“That’s right. When the delivery came the second time, Kellan had already decided to actually kidnap Xanthe.”
Originally, I had planned to go along with it and use Kellan’s actions to eliminate Xanthe.
But when I saw the sincerity in Officer Hudson’s eyes, I wavered
inside.
Thinking about it, although Xanthe had betrayed me, at least her crime didn’t warrant death. The one who truly deserved to die was
Kellan.
So, I called the kidnappers and told them to let Xanthe go.
